New gun advise/opinions 2
« on: October 26, 2011, 04:37:13 PM »
Maybe a better way of asking the previous post question would be: if you had your choice between a S&W 629 5in 44mag, a Ruger RH stainless 5 1/2in 44mag OR a BFR 475/480 w/6 1/2in barrel. Which one would it be and why? I'm not being retorical here, I'm really not sure which way to go. I've actually been thinnin the herd a bit. I gave my son my 3 screw SB  :'( , my daughter wanted one of the stainless Vaquero's and I sold an engraved Vaquero to a friend who's been buggin me about it for years. (I've had and sold two S&W 629's a few years back, and yea, regretted selling the 5in but thats a whole different story)  That leaves two more original stainless Vaquero 45 colts that may go, one Bisley and one Standard. I'm keeping a stainless Bisley Blackhawk 5 1/2in and 4in RH both 45 colt. (you'll notice these are adjustable sight guns I'm keeping, don't shoot the fixed sight guns so well anymore  :-\ ) so whichever I choose from the question above will also be a keeper. Hmmmm, maybe another Kimber in 45acp.  ::)   I think I need a drink....

Me id grab a 29 and run! Redhawks are hell for stout but i havent had a lot of luck with accuracy in standard redhawks although the super redhawks are usually tack drivers. Problem with them is there big and ugly. Bfrs to me are not a whole lot more gun then a super blackhawk and sold by a company that in my experience has a customer service dept that is lacking. Smiths might not be as strong as a redhawk but the fit and finish is hands down better, ive yet to have one in 44 mag that wasnt a shooter, there much lighter and easier to pack around all day and they just have class that the others dont. Make my 29 a 4 inch gun though.

I would keep the 5" 629. It's a favorite of mine.

My 4" mdl 29 is a joy to own. It packs lighter than your other options, shoots like a house afire, and certainly has more class.

Thank you for you're insight gents. In fact that was the original deal I had made with the gentleman. A 5in Smith 44mag. Then he came up with "well whatever you want", so that opened up other ideas for some guns I've never owned or really thought about,(probably for a reason). And I also agree with you in all respects, the 629 IS a fine revolver, but I prefer the 5in.  ;D  Good choice I'm thinkin.
