Savage 99 Questions
« on: October 28, 2011, 06:36:43 PM »
Just won an auction for a Savage 99 308.  Haven't actually received the rifle yet, so I don't know everything about it, but by serial number and features it seems to be around 1960, and based on the stock and gold trigger I think it's a model F.
I've been hearing about these being finicky with accuracy.  Anyone experience this?
I see the same sling in a lot of pictures of the 99, so I assume they used to come with the rifle.  Anyone know where I can find an original sling?
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have used factory ammo and hand load for mine and on a good day from the bench I can get a 4" group. Mine is a 1979 and I don't remember it coming with a sling.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

Is that with iron sights or a scope?

Mine prefers wincheter factory loads , or winchester brass for reloads
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

Mine had the standard military style sling, aftermarket. I don't recall them coming with them from the factory. This rifle, while far ahead of its time,is a poster child for bad trigger ergonomics. Neat though. The original design goes back to 1895,model 1899 had a few improvements, eventually called just the 99.
