Mosin-Nagant Handloads - Bullet Wieght

Hi All,
    I've been poking 'round the web and seem to notice in places that the 208-ish grain bullets seem to be giving folks the best accuracy with thier MN's. I believe the original round was 210 grains, and later they went down to about 148 gr. around 1908.

So really, most MN out there were manufactured after the drop in bullet weight, so it may just be bunk, but is there any truth in the idea that maybe the twist favors the heavier round nosed bullets?

I have always gotten best accuracy with 174-180 gr bullets. You need to slug your bore to see what diameter bullet you really need. Most need .311 diameter but some need .312 diameter. Most accurate load I have ever found that shoots in every model I have ever tried it in is this. 50 grs AA 4350, CCI 200 primer, Prvi or Lapua case, .311 174 gr Sierra Match King or 180 SP OAL 3.000 or .312  174 Hornnady RNSP OAL 2.790 and use a Lee Factory Crimp Die on all loads.

My Mosin P-27 just loves the heavy stuff, yes it can lob out the lighter rounds but groups tighten rite up with the heaver bullets.
Chinese Milsurp (1950's) went bang and made coffeecan size patterns at 150 yards.
When I use Wolf 205gr hunting ammo, it turns into a death ray, shredds popcans at that range (scoped)

Interesting. Guess that kills the idea of using the Lee 155 and 160 gr. bullet molds. Perhaps the .303 mold is a better choice. Though I'll admit to having some, perhaps irrational, attachment to spitzers vrs. round nose.

Oh! Your talking cast bullets. Never fooled with cast in my MN's only Jacketed. I have cast a lot for my Sharps 45-70 though.
