1960 model 94 Winchester 32 special.
« on: October 30, 2011, 04:02:00 AM »
I have a chance to buy a 1960 model 94 Winchester 32 special in descent shape for $150.00. I'm pretty sure that the gun is worth it but what I'm ultimately wanting is a nice marlin lever action .22 for my son. Do y'all think this would be a good offer up for a nice 39 marlin of some sorts?  Is this a good price? What are the .32 specials pre 64's worth. Should I get it?

What it's worth may be affected by the area in which you live.  It's a pre-64, in a caliber that was once kind of overlooked, but these days seems to be kind of rediscovered by many, especially the cast-bullet crowd.  If someone wants to sell it to you for $150, and it's in decent shape, whip out your cash, credit card, or checkbook and scarf it up.  There's people out there that are paying over $400 for these, in decent shape.  While a Marlin 22 levergun is nice (or used to be before Marlin went under), you could be looking at a good deer rifle here, not to mention a collector's item, at $150.00.

like jlchucker said, any pre '64 is easily worth double the $150 asking price no matter what the caliber.

the old .32 special is basically a .32 cal .30/30, according to all the written nomenlature it was intended to handle blackpowder and the fowling that oges along with it better than the .30/30 back when that was all that was available for the general public to reload with.

the gun is a bargain that shouldn't be passed up, IMHO.

I have had to modify one post and remove two others in this thread.  REMEMBER: don't discuss buying/selling in discussion forums on GBO.  That goes in classified forums or PMs.  If it keeps happening this thread gets locked.

I'm sorry Keith. Won't happen again. That wasn't my intention of this thread.

This group is normally good about this.  Pre 64 guns get the juices running I guess.

I'd say it's a no brainer , make good trade bait for the over rated Marlin 39 that you really want !
