    Two California high school students became one of the first lesbian couples crowned homecoming king and queen in the nation this weekend.
Rebeca Arellano, a senior at Patrick Henry High School, was made the school's first female homecoming king when her name was announced Friday at a pep rally.
"They were chanting my name and it was one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had," said Arellano.
Arellano's girlfriend, Haileigh Adams, who also attends Patrick Henry High School, was made homecoming queen at Saturday night's dance.
"I was happier than when I won, my little Haileigh has just been announced Homecoming queen and I couldn't feel happier! Thanks to every single one of you! You guys made this happen and we are all part of something huge. I can't fully express how grateful I am. I am in completely shocked that this happen. My girl looks absolutely flawless," wrote Arellano on Facebook Saturday night.
The two girls told ABC News that they're thankful for the abundance of support they've received from family, friends, and students and staff at the school.
Arellano said one of her teachers told her, "Today school is a bit better because of you girls."
Arellano's Facebook wall is covered with congratulatory notes from her friends.
"Thank you all for allowing this change to happen," Arellano posted on Facebook.
Adams said they have received negative feedback as well.
"We have a lot of support, but there are also a lot of people who are angry about it," she said. "Anonymous Patrick Henry students are saying they're embarrassed and that it's wrong for a girl to take the spot of king. But there's no other way for us to run as a couple. It's not really fair for us not to have the right to run as a couple."
Arellano posted a statement to those who opposed her on her Facebook wall that read: "For all the girls who think tradition should be continued, go back to the kitchen, stop having sex before you're married, get out of school and job system, don't have an opinion, don't own any property, give up the right to marry who you love, don't vote, and allow your husband to do whatever he pleases to you. Think about the meaning of tradition when you use it in your argument against us."
Adams and Arellano both came out their freshman year of high school, and they began dating in February of their sophomore year. They say their parents were supportive both when they came out and when they started dating.

   I really don't think you "get it" !  Surely, I never had to sit down and think about whether I were male or female and my interest in girls was natural.  Where a person goes after same/sex, it HAS to be a deliberate choice.  The worst culprits here (IMO) are the parents, who according to the report, encouraged the deviancy in their offspring.  They helped to condemn their own child into a miserable life.
  When a parent sees their child going wrong,  whether drugs, alcohol, gambling or queerness...it is simply parental duty to at least TRY to rescue the child from a miserable life...  DUH !

        I cant believe every young actress today is a queer. They all seem to seek each other and teach each other these things. They openly kiss on stages and perform in these areas for the crowds. If you watch much TV you will note that the queer is represented as the best thing since man began. What is a young man or women to think about such. TV will make you buy a beer or become a queer. For this reason I detest TV shows/sitcoms.
      queers come from dysfunctional homes. Most had single moms. or evil step parents that themselves were preators. Friends trying new things. Or at a young age, when they could not respond to their advances, were influenced by the queer predators that seek them.

You are the one that does not get it. Just as you said you said that your interest in girls was natural. To someone that is homosexual their interest in the same sex came just as naturally as yours for the opposite sex. They know it is different but cannot help how they feel. How terrible the feeling to have feelings for the same sex, knowing those feelings are very different from most. The only choice is whether or not act upon those feelings. I cannot imagine that any sane person would "choose" a gay lifestyle. What is there to gain?

Bugeye I started to write the same thing. The man I know would not work and stayed home, changed diapers and kept the kids. His wife worked. What a mess he has now. His son is on facebook telling the world how good queers are. I think more than anything the son is trying to convince himself.
Everyone I know personally that is queer or in one case from a predator that had access to him while he was very young.... came from a bad situation in the home.

I am not sure that the homosexuality aspect of this  is what I particularily disagree with. I work in EMS in the heartland and this business is alive with homosexuals particularily of the female persausion, but some male two. I think it maybe true that some are born homosexual while others are made. I don't see this as a black and white issue. For instance I have two partners that i routinely work the streets with. One is a lesbian one and one is a man who is obviously in the closet. The lesbian (one of the best partners I have ever had) was badly molested and found that se could love no man afterwards. Clearly she was "made" or atleast heavily influenced in that direction. However she tends to have long term relationships and doesn't do things like shove her tounge down people's throats in public. She pays taxes, goes to church, and doesn't drink or do drugs. I have no problem with that. The other one, a man who is in the closet, is obviously gay. He is from a strong fundamentalist family and refuses to admit it but, it's really sad. He tries to make "That girl's hot" comments that no straight guy would ever make, he is badly effeminate and will probably never have a healthy relationship b/c of it and is a deeply depressed guy. Whats more if he ever did come out he would never have a healthy family relationship and would probably remain a deeply depressed person. Just to contrast a few of my own personal experiences with this matter.
 
                I have no problem with either one of these folks. My main problem with homoexuals specififcally of the male type is that their lifestyles have a tendency to rapidly degrade into sexual depravity. This (and this is only a theory I have developed from experience) is caused by the fact that men who chase women usually have a check in place. I:E_a woman will not go out to your car and have sex with you no matter how horny your are after meeting for an hour. Men on the other hand will do this. Thus male homosexuals tend to have excessive promiscuity in their lifestyles. Leading to depravity, no healthy relationships, and yes rampant disease. Naturally this is a stereotype and there are probaby a goodly number of men who are with only one partner at a time, don't flaunt their sexuality in public (no one should really), and are generally upstanding citizens. That to me is the crux of the matter. I really don't care about sexual orientation but, i do care about the promotion of depraved and unhealthy lifestyles. Thats just my 2 cents though, take it for what it's worth.
