my new cannon
« on: October 30, 2011, 03:41:54 PM »
Here is my new cannon:

It is 1.25" bore and shoots a 9.9oz miniball, Most of the parts had been sitting in his closet for almost 15 years before I reminded him that I'd like it. It was all hand machined and fabricated by my father who has been a machinist most of his life. It is machined out of 17-4, along with the axle and most of the small parts.

I'm currently shooting 300gr of Pyrodex RS. Might try black powder load later.
If you click my other videos there are a couple more videos of the cannon firing.

Any tips, tricks or advice is appreciated.

Machined out of 17-4, 1.25" bore, shoots a 9.9oz miniball. My father has been a machinist most of his life and started it about 15 years ago then had it sitting in his closet collecting dust until I reminded him that I wanted it.
It was a blast to shoot and can't wait to cast a few more rounds for next time. I tried retrieving on of the rounds but it went to deep into the birm to get without a shovel.

it was shot with 300 gr of PYRODEX RS in prepared aluminum foil packs, then a lubed miniball on top and tamp down well, puncture foil, add musket cap, pull string and BANG!
This will be my sons one day too.
