Christian?? Churches reading koran for diversity??

Christian Churches Read Quran from Pulpits across America

How would you feel if your pastor stood in the pulpit this past Sunday opened what you believed to be his Bible and then started to read passages completely unfamiliar to you. Then in the midst of the reading you hear him say Allah instead of God and you realize he is reading not from his Bible, but from the Quran.
How would you feel and what would you do?
If this didn’t happen to you yesterday, count yourself fortunate because it did happen to a number people sitting in Christian churches across America.
Social activists involved with Faith Shared, a program of Interfaith Alliance and Human Rights First were trying to promote tolerance and respect of Islam and counter opposition to the Muslim faith. So starting with the National Cathedral in Washington DC, at least fifty other churches in twenty-six states joined in the effort to host readings from the Quran.
The effort is meant to counter what they refer to as ‘anti-Muslim bigotry and negative stereotypes’ that have been growing in the US. By getting prominent national and local churches to read from the Quran and teach their congregations about Islam, the Alliance believes it will help make Christians more knowledgeable and tolerant of Islam.
Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy, president of Interfaith Alliance said:
“The anti-Muslim rhetoric that has pervaded our national conversation recently has shocked and saddened me. Appreciation for pluralism and respect for religious freedom and other human rights are at the core of our democracy. We believe that demonstrating our commitment to those core American values will help counteract the intensified level of negative stereotypes and anti-Muslim bigotry in our recent public discourse.”
Tad Stahnke of Human Rights First said:
“With
Faith Shared, congregations will send a clear message to the world that Americans respect religious differences and reject bigotry and the demonization of Islam or any other religion. This message about the fundamental importance of religious freedom around the world is especially timely as President Obama prepares to reaffirm the United States’ support for democracy in the Middle East starting with a speech later this week.”
Dean Sam Lloyd of the National Cathedral said:
“Few things are more important for the future of our world than to respect, to honor, and to commit ourselves to the well-being of every person—to embrace a sense of humility before the vast mystery of God. As Americans and as people of faith, we must use our great traditions to come together for mutual enrichment and understanding.”
Islam has no tolerance for other religions and if you think it does and want to argue the point, look at the Islamic nations in the Middle East such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq. They not only preach intolerance for other religions, especially Judaism and Christianity, but they preach the eradication of them. These Muslim nations have laws against the religious practices of other religions. In Egypt, the state police have been harassing Christians and arresting them and beating them.
Yep, that’s tolerance, isn’t it?
Jesus never taught tolerance for other religions, but he also didn’t teach his followers to use violence against them. Instead, Jesus taught his followers to share their faith with those who believe in other religions and to pray for them.
I don’t know about you, but if my pastor had read from the Quran this past Sunday, I would have gotten up in the middle of the service and left. I would also have serious doubts about returning to worship the God of the Bible and Jesus Christ at a church that reads from the Quran and teaches respect for a false religion.
I would make an appointment to meet with the pastor ask him to justify his actions and then I would read 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 to him, which says:
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
‘”I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”’
I would also ask my pastor if he believed Jesus in John 14:6 when He said:
“Jesus said to him, ”I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
And Matthew 7:15-16 when Jesus said:
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits.”
And Matthew 24:10-12 when Jesus said:
“And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.”
In view of these passages of Scripture, I would ask my pastor to explain why he would dare use the pulpit on the Lord’s Day to teach or promote the religion of a false prophet. My further attendance at his church would depend upon his answers to these questions.
I advise any of you who may have sat in one of these churches to follow the same course of action with your pastor and then make your own judgment on whether or not you want to consider attending that church in the future.

BUGEYE. The koran is satans roadmap to hell, it will never be found in my Church. A friend of mine has a cabin, he also built an outhouse, he has one in there, minus several pages. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

In a Christian church there is the Bible and it is the first and last book that should be read there.
If you choose to read the Koran, the Torah, the Tao etc those are things you can do at home.
I have read them to see what was being taught and the diferrences. I also read Stephen King, Field and Stream etc. Just not at church.

There is no book of Powderman in the bible-why not? To a believer the Bible is perfection without anything needed to be added. In my opinion you can fault Powderman for telling the truth. You may not like it but he does speak the Bible well. Having said that sometimes I get a great chuckle from some of his posts others I say wow that is a hard teaching but it is the truth.
You just have to know how to which to chuckle over and which are hard truths. ;D

I thank God there is no Book of Powderman in my Bible.
''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
We don't need a book of Powderman in the Bible..we just need to know a little bit about the Bible that has been preserved for us.....and take it serious !  For instance:
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
 in (Galatians 1:8

" But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!  As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!
Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ".
'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

Now, that verse should speak volumes to anyone who CLAIMS to be a Christian !  God didn't leave His word so it could be ignored !
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

In most churches they may as well read the Sears catalog.  They read the Bible in every service but they misunderstand everything they read.  But hey a social club really doesn't need much in the way of heavy reading.  Just go and have fun that's the important thing.

swampman. Thats the difference between a preacher who gives Bible lessons and a real preacher. They aren't supposed to tell you what YOU WANT to hear, they are supposed to tell you what GOD wants you to hear. Your above statement speaks volumes about how you have arrived at a lot of your mistaken beliefs. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Longfellow, Thoreau and Shakespeare are some fine authors. No disagreement. When I attend church I prefer authors like Paul, Peter, James, King David, Moses, and Isahaih. The great thing about churches there are so many you can pick which one you are being fed with.
If you water down the truth it loses it's value. I believe it was Christ who said "you have become lukewarm I will spew you out of my mouth". I take that as a message to make up your mind and stick with it. Co-religions tend to cause lots of problem, thats just my opinion though.

The only time I would expect to hear the Koran in church was to contrast what the word of Satan says vs, the Word of God!  It could happen, but hasn't yet because our church believes that the Word of God stands alone as truth.  It would not upset me at all to have him use the Koran as contrast.

They aren't supposed to tell you what YOU WANT to hear, they are supposed to tell you what GOD wants you to hear.

If what they are telling contradicts the Bible, they aren't telling you what God wants you to hear.  I am right and millions of "christians" are wrong.  The Bible says the way is "strait and narrow" and few shall find it.  numbers don't make you right, in fact they are a good indication you're wrong.  Millions attend every church service thinking they are worshipping God when in fact they are worshiping the wicked one.

Which is why there are 20,000+ protestant sects.

And even sadder is the fact that the Protestants are the closest to the truth.

And this neat little interlude has to with a church reading the Koran?  I understand, and I think most here understand, your basic religious philosophy.  I also understand that it impacts the way you see most things.  I have no problem with that.  But I do have a problem with so many threads being derailed by it.  And we both know that just like you can't help yourself, there are several here who cannot let such a post go.  I thought I made this clear on a different thread, but if I didn't I will do so here:

I will delete any posts, from now on, that are specifically about Swampman's religious beliefs and not about the thread topic.

This includes posts by Swampman, and responses.  I will lock threads that get out of control.  If you want to talk about Swampman's religious theories, make a thread so titled and have at it.

Dukkiller, if this is off topic "My Bad." I see nothing wrong with a study of Koran in a Christian Church, if for no other reason than to know your enemy. Preists and Ministers speak about Hell and Satan, we can't blow it off just because we think their beliefs are wrong. I think they are. But, they are willing to die for them. That is a mind set that we have to come to grips with, if for no other reason than to learn how to defeat them. Never ever forget that the Muslims will gladly dance on the graves of our children to achieve their goals.

Frankly, reading the Koran in a general church meeting would be wrong, because of introducing "another gospel" (Gal 1:8)
Yet, with the old axiom we all learned in the military, "know your enemy".. I would willingly use it to teach a class on, "why they do what they do".  I would use the Koran along side the Bible and start back in Genesis, explaining how the envy and hate started with one fellow being..."cut out of the will".  A concise history lesson explaining the results of a camel driver marrying a fabulously rich widow would follow.
The class would be limited to Biblically knowledgeable adult Christians....  Hey, I might just do that !

How does "know your enemy" jive with "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"?

  Swampy;
There are people from a fanatical sect who behead Christians, blow up buildings they are in..kill Christian girls on their way to Christian school and have a Christian Pastor in jail now..wanting to execute him..FOR BEING A CHRISTIAN !Their "holy book" tells them to 'slay us' !
Yeah, we can love them..love to see them converted to the truth...and pray for them, pray they see the light and become Christians !  Do good to them, by showing where they are so sadly mistaken !
But when it comes to people who delight in murdering Christians, is that the kind of 'friends" you would choose ?   Do you think it would be better for Christians to remain uninformed ?

I do love my enemies [Muslims]....they are more than welcome to share a grilled cheese sandwich made with ham and bacon.    I bless them that curse me; I raise my sausage biscuit in their honor.   I do good to them that hate me, as I convinced a buddy of mine to name his new pot-belly pig Mohammed.   And, lastly, I pray that Muslims will abandon their adherence to a false prophet and his pseudo-deity, and come to the one true God.

How does "know your enemy" jive with "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"?
