What's up?

What's going on "back home"?  The Alaska forum seems to have dried up, and I'm missing my fix of home state news!

I'm enjoying sunny Florida, and so is my arthritis.  Just got a call from the wife, she is storming.  Rolled the window down on her SUV, and it won't go back up.  It's 45 below this morning in North Pole she said, so she commendeered the kids S-120.

She hung up on me when I told her how warm it is down here.

Yeah, I saw in the paper that Fairbanks had 41 below already.  I believe that it said that was record early.  Global warming, don't you know... ;D

Hawk,

I know Anchorage & the Keani area has enjoyed record low temps & snowfall this year. Actually so have we here in southeast Alaska.
I know the Anchorage daily news is available free online. I read it daily. You can sign up too. Don't know about Fairbanks news, Ketchikan in keeping with their "charge for everything policy" charges for online news.  :o

Hey I was just down in Florida... turns out we all like a little break from the cold.  It's a toasty -4 in prudhoe bay right now.

Florida went really well for me.

Tried to whack a deer with my bow in MS, but that didn't end up workin well.  Only white tailed critter I saw there was on the side of the highway after he got hit by a car.

The rain is killin everybody else right now...

Hay that's one good looking Dolphin fish.  So far the only ones I've caught are what we call schoolies, running about 4 to 6 lbs.

Did hook a sail fish, but lost it on the first jump.

Going out tomorrow for grouper, and anything else that comes along.

Loving the Keys.

Yeah we were lookin and hopin for some sails, but didn't see anything.  Got a couple pretty nice grouper, were nailin dolphins, I also caught that big barracuda sittin next to my left foot in the picture.  It was a good day on the water.  It was actually kinda nice because of the wind, and the waves were up a bit, so we didnt have too many boats around.

I thought it was hilarious they were saying people didnt want to come out because of how rough it was in 2' seas.... Hell in Seward we might skip out once you get to about 8'...

Well we had nice real cold weather right up until winter moose opened. Then thaw and rain.  A friend camped out the night before the opener and found a bull the next day.  Said he bogged his snogo and while digging it out a bull showed up - he'd scouted the week before and knew a bull was inter area.  Haven't heard the whole story but it got sloppy and rough. Other friends with a bigger sled and snogo helped him the next day but by then there was lots of rain, even more slop and quite a chore getting the meat out.  Hasn't been better since. More rain, snow mixed w rain, wind.  Glad to have the freezer full already.  My son wants to get out but no sense while its this crummy.

Finally got cold again and dried out a bit - forecast is for a high of 9 and low of -6 tomorrow.  My oldest and I will go out on snogos to see if we can find a moose.  With so little daylight we won't get far.  But maybe I can see if our dome has survived the wind storms and freezing rains. Moose hang around there so maybe my son can get lucky. That would be a good Christmas present for both of us - and the neighbors - our freezer is still pretty full.  Will be good to get out.

The sun is up today however little and now happily gaining a minute or so per day.  While the temps are WAY down; -30 to -35 by my thermometers the last couple days has discouraged us from getting out to do much.  Bummer.  While we didn't see much moose sign nor did friends who flew around looking, there was a LOT of ptarmigan sign and I'm champing to get out after them - lots more fun and less work than moose.  But not at these temps - stuff breaks to easy and little problems are quickly big ones.  Did put new plastic runners on my old snogo sled - so should be more ready when temps improve.

I see Sourdough bought himself a new present.  Have a left hand 870 coming for my youngest son - I'm more excited than he is.

Hope everybody had a good safe Christmas and same for the new year.
