35 caliber bullet seating die
« on: November 01, 2011, 07:08:55 AM »
Hello all,

I am loading up rounds for a .358 Winchester Super Short Magnum.  I was wanting to buy a bullet seating die for this round without buying a whole set of dies. I already have access to a Hornady sizer die for this round.  In a conversation with a tech at Hornady I was told to "just use a 35 Whelen seating die, its the same thing".  This seems odd as there is such a difference is case dimensions between the two rounds.  So can anyone help?  Maybe someone who has a 35 Whelen seating die could give me the internal diameter of the die?  My concern is that the WSSM case is too short to seat to proper depth and too fat to even fit into the die.  If it'll work it'll save me some $$$.  Thanks for your help.

Lots of room in the Hornady New Dimension 35 Whelen seater die, body ID is ~.610", whether the seater adjustment will go low enough for the SSM round is another matter tho. It will seat a 225gr Accubond in a 35 Rem case to a COL of 2.560" if that helps.
