My daughter & I took these two little whitetails with her youth model 7mm-08 Handi yesterday.
They were laying down in tall grass. At 500 yards the antlers looked like dark weeds. At 350 they became antlers. There I dropped my pack and we proceeded on hands & knees, stopping occasionally to raise up to see if we had a better view. At 197 we still couldn't see enough for a looong head shot off her sticks.
We sat there whispering our next moves when I noticed one had stood up. I whispered "He's up! He's up! Shoot em."
She put a 140 gr. Partition through both lungs. He ran about 30 yards and started in on his floor routine. Meanwhile, his buddy stood there watching, giving me enough time to whisper "Can I use your gun?" I slipped in another shell, scrunched down behind the short youth stock with high comb pad, lined up low in the chest & touched the trigger.
I had forgotten how light the factory trigger job is and the shot surprised me. My bullet busted one humerus going in, ripped through the brisket and smashed the other humerus going out. He nose dived on the spot & didn't get up.
I dragged my littler one over to her bigger one for the photo op.
Chalk two more up to the 7mm-08!
