what are you shooting/hunting with?
« on: November 02, 2011, 10:15:37 PM »
I've been hunting with a sage takedown recurve that my wife and kids got for me on fathers day! Its a great shooting bow! My son an I have hunted together since he was 12, he hunted with a little browning wasp recurve back then. He now hunts with a beautiful old bear grizzly and cedar arrows. Its proven to be a great setup for him. I've been trying to get the beman ics hunter carbon arrows to shoot good from my sage, but just can't get them to shoot well. So I stay with my cedar's, the sage is shooting these very good! Thanks! scout4<><

Had been hunting with a Chastain Wapiti Spike 64# and 64" longbow. A couple of tweaked rotator cuffs have me looking at that bow and cringing.

I have gotten my Bear Kodiak hunter out of museum duty it is 50# and so much easier to shoot. Its an early 70's bow. I sorta hate to shoot it a bunch but then again what use is it hanging on the wall? It can hang there if it does start to delaminate or some other ailment takes hold of it.

Had to PCS during the season so my gear is sitting in a container in Portsmouth. But if I could it'd be a Sage with Easton 400s and Zwickey Eskimos.

I currently have three recurves. My 35# Black Widow is regretably long gone.. .

First is a Damon-Howatt Momba 45# 58''. Early '90's.

Then a '60's Ben Pearson BPH90 45# 58"

Lastly is my Bear Grizzly 50# 58" I'm unsure of age, but remember it from my earliest days in the late 60's.

All good shooters. I haven't hunted with any in a long time...

I bet thats a beauty Plenty Coups! Man, these are all great bows, arrows, broadheads! cwlongshot, you got a real collection there, thats cool! My sons bear grizzly is about a 1981 model, I bought it years ago at the eastern traditional archery rendevous in coudersport Pa. I passed it on to him for his 14th birthday. My oldest recurve is a now vintage howatt superD, its a great recurve, hunted it a bunch! Thanks! scout4<><

I've now changed my bow for a better shooter. The sage is a good bow, and I've shot it well, but I've been unable to get consistent shot to shot accuracy out of it which I'm sure is because of how the bow fits me. Picked up my old wildcat recurve, got it strung up and went out with my heavy hunting arrows and started to make some dead center shots once again. So how a bow fits the hand really does make a difference! scout4<><

Been using a Blacktail takedown the last few years 54# at 28 been very happy with it.  Not much hunting though this fall.
