Where would you buy a camp east of the mighty Mississippi?

I haven't hit the lotto yet, but when I do, I want to be ready. ;D

Just for kicks, if you had ~$50K to spend on a small parcel with a small camp, just a cabin to call your own kinda-thing, a place to take the kids for camping during the summer, and your preferred use was whitetail hunting on nearby public land....

where, what state, region would you begin your search and possibly buy?

I sometimes check out listings and some prices seem pretty good lately.

as long as it wasn't my permanent home, I would choose southern Illinois.
big deer, rabbits, squirrels, great fishing, trapping and the weather ain't too bad.

Not trying to be cute, but I would like my camp to be adjacent to some prime private land that I could hunt or lease.  IL, IN, and OH all sound good to me.  I wouldn't rule out LA if you hate the cold and enjoy waterfowl as well.

You will never find anything in Ill annoy for 50k. Your best bet is northern mich. or northern minn.

NEVER in ILL. You would have to hunt with a sling shot.
Kentucky would be nice but like someone said $50K will not get you much unless you get a few acres next to one of the national forrest or in the red river gorge.
