Ruger Bisley .41RM in 5.5 or 6"?

I just picked up a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk (Blue) in .41 Rem Mag, It has a 6" (or 5.5") barrel; I had never seen any in this length before, though now they have 'em in Stainless, is this an unusual model?  ???

5.5" is a common blackhawk length.  Mine's a NMB Convertible .45 LC / .45 ACP model.  ;)  I like the 5.5" as a good in between still carryable, but little better balance then the long barrels.  Just personal opinion mainly.  ;)

On your Ruger; What is the length from the tip of the barrel to the back of the forcing cone?
Think mine is 6" but..

Mine measures out to 6" and since yours is 5.5ish to the forcing cone and yours is a 5.5" model, mine must be a true six inch model.

  Ahhh, folks, notice the OP stated this one he's inquiring about is 1) a blued Bisley and 2) a .41 magnum and has a 5 1/2" or 6" barrel!     Then all that was asked is if was an unusual model.    So...     
  For starters there's not been a blued Bisley in .41 magnum made available from Ruger.   Secondly, the .41 magnum has not been available in a 5 1/2" barrel configuration other than the stainless Bisleys produced for Acusport and then later, Williams'.     Couple those two together and it's pretty certain this is simply something someone had done, or did it themselves.  Pretty easy to do.    Gonna take a guess that it was either a Bisley someone cut the barrel down on.  (can tell from the barrel rollmarks) or a standard BH that someone cut down and Bisley-ized.
  Regardless, great chambering in a great configuration. :)

Not in that barrel length anyway. They did make blued Bisley 41's in 7.5". As stated this one has been cut or "put together"

sent a letter to Ruger for info.
Starting to come to the conclusion that it had been cut, the front blade is not as I remember from my 44 Bisley.
If it shoots I'll be happy.

I bought a Bisley 41 mag the first year production, 7.5" blue.  I took it straight to my gunsmith, who chopped the bbl to 5.5".  It is home to stay.  Wallacem in Ga

I too bought the first 41 mag bisley I sawn -- in Kodiak.  I kept the 7.5 in barrel but I'm not crazy about it.  Awfully long for carrying. It mostly goes to the range now.  I did carry quite a bit before I got my stainless redhawk and even later my 57 Mt Gun.  But I pitted the Bisley bore when I was in really wet country and had to keep the gun real discrete.  Had a new 7.5 put on.  Darn, I wish I'd thought to have a shorter one made then.  But I was trying caribou hunting with it then and wanted the added velocity of the long barrel. 


Let us know how the shorter barrel works out - original or not - if it handles well it might be a really nice rig.


One day when I stumble on a 4 5/8 black hawk I'll probably bring it home - love the look and have never fired the black hawk version.


Sure like how the bisley fits my hand and handles recoil.
