Hungarian M44 Mosin Nagant
« on: November 05, 2011, 06:14:45 AM »
I have a chance to buy a hungarian m44.  None of the serial numbers match but they are all marked with "02".  It has no cleaning rod or sling with it.  All of the Blueing is nice with just a little wear.  The barrel has a slight amount of pitting in it but looks shootable.
Im having trouble finding any real info about the hungarian made rifles or even their value.  The owner wants me to research a fair price so i can make an offer but its rather difficult with what little info i find online so i could use some input from all of you guys here.  Im not a collector but dont want something that will just be a peice of junk either.  Unfortunately i sold my minty Russian m44 several months ago and now really regret it.

There are a couple on Gunbroker.com now for $150 - $200. There in one on GunAuction.com for $165. Good luck!

They seem to run about the same as any M44 in price.
and there are a ton of good condition M44's out there for sale ranging from $150.00 to about $225.00 and most include all their accessories!
In the condition you describe it and without actually seeing it for myself, its kind of hard to say for sure but as it is missing stuff and has pits in the barrel, I would probably offer $100.00 to $125.00 for it and go from there.
It will all depend on how bad you want that particular one though, personally, I would probably not go over $100.00 if I was looking at it as just a shooter!
I paid $225.00 shipped for my M44 from a collector, but my reason was because it had a perfect, like it had never been fired barrel but had a few dings in the stock, I wanted it for a shooter and not a wall hanger!

For non matching I doubt I would offer more than a hundred bucks. With that in mind it took me about four years to find a minty matching hungarian M-44. BTW my non matching hun is a great shooter.
