Encore grip/stock on g2?
« on: November 06, 2011, 10:09:11 PM »
I have heard of using a grip chip but I put my grip on without one and it seemed to fit. What does the grip chip do and is there anything wrong with using an encore grip/stock on a g2 without the adapter besides the small gap on sides?

filling in the gap with a thin plastic sheet will make it more stable.

Yes it will go on the G2, but there is good bit of difference between the thickness of the Encore and the G2. If you do not put spacers in to fill the voids I suspect you will have erratic performance especially from heavy recoilers due to the grip/stock twisting under recoil.  Also if its not sitting centered and flat in the inletted area may  pop  one of the ears off.

There is one who makes and sells the grip chip, but its simple to make your own.

I have no pictures. Find a pliable plastic that is thick enough to fill the void. Score the plastic in two places so after bending it will fit tight into the stock. You may need to heat a little to bend to keep it from breaking. Also use a strong straight edge to get a straight bend. After fitting into the stock trace around the wings or ears and trim to fit. You will also have to trim for the mounting lug and frame where it fits into the stock.

I have a custom stock that another made and the inlet was a little big. I used aluminum duct tape to fill the void and it has held for several years. I put even layers on each side until it was tight then carefully trimmed with a hobby knife. It now looks like a thin silver trim.
