Guess it had to Happen!

I've seen in several threads of late people reporting on new security measures at various retail stores, Wal-Mart and Basspro Shops come to mind as a couple I remember.  I guess I have to resent as much as anyone else this unwelcome change to the peace of our lives a lot of us remember.  I'm not wanting to make any long winded thread out of this so you'll have to forgive but I think with the rate information filters around in the ether nowadays todays' news out of Knoxville most certainly will make even more  businesses, especially Pawn Shops think again about  how weapons are handled with customers.

  At the South Clinton Pawn Shop (about 20 miles north of Knoxville) today a 60 some man entered the pawn shop and asked to see a shotgun off the rack.  The clerk a Mr. Snellings handed the man the shotgun.  The customer proceeded to take shells he had brought with him from his pocket.  A short scuffle ensued and in the process the clerk was shot and later died of his wound!  Another clerk in the store whom was armed did return fire but the suspect, one Mr. Green got away.   The wife of the suspect not aware of what had happened earlier called a hospital to report her husband had returned home and was wounded and needed medical help.

  I don't think it's really relevant why this fellow did what he did but I have to believe it'll make even more security changes more common!  Did ya ever wonder if some of these nuts (forgive me) read our ponderings here and acts out the very type thing we've had some fear of?

TNBilly, when a man is going to act like that. There is little we can do. I don't know anyone that can read minds.
They have already thought out every scenario that will give them satisfaction of doing something like this.

Unfortunately, the clerk that was armed, wasn't a better shot.  That would have definitely resolved the problem.

A gun shop I used to work in we had a father and son come in, father asked to see a 357 that was on sale, the owner handed it to him and he was showing it to his son who pulled a hand full of shells out of his pocket and started to load it, the owner and my self both armed with concealed 45s pulled them and ordered the kid to put the gun on the counter. The kid said he just wanted to see if the shells would fit. His dad took the gun away and put it on the counter and explained to the kid he had come very close to departing this world. The owner told the kid he was never to come into the shop again.

Haven't heard a whole lot more yet on what the accused perp has had to say, it'll eventually come out perhaps.  One of the local radio stations did give a little more specifics on the shooting though.  Seems the shotgun used to kill the clerk was a 410!  During the struggle for it it discharged hitting the clerk in the neck.  If it had been a 12 gauge ya could think perhaps he took his chance there would be a 12 gauge on the rack but, a 410?  He'd have likely scouted it out methinks.  The other clerk shot the perp twice with a 40 S&W.  Whatever the perps problem or reasoning, another person paid with his life.  Either evil or insanity or both.
