slim light single shot?
« on: November 07, 2011, 06:53:40 PM »
I learned to shoot with a remington no 4 rolling block.  It was in nearly new condition with sharp edges on the barrel flats, no rust and the stock was in great shape. It disappeared in one of Dad's trades over the years.  I have always remembered how small and handy that rifle was and now I want something like it.  The number 4's that I have seen were mostly in poor condition and the sellers must  thought they had gold hidden in them.  are there any current or near current makers of a 22 on the scale of a number 4?  not a bolt action chipmunk style.  Does anyone make a rolling block that is not sized for the buffalo shooters?

Maybe something like these may fit the bill? http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/30+G I think they stopped making these last year. And it's a falling block instead.

TC makes a mini contender in 22rf....about the size of the #4.  I have a 22 RB pistol....believe it is Umberti (?)..they  made a small RB rifle in the 70"s and I believe it was just re-introduced.....good luck

Only thing I don't like about my Stevens 30G is that it isn't drilled & tapped for a receiver sight.  Bud's has them available, that's where I got mine:

It is everything you are looking for; accurate, pretty, light and it even comes apart!

I picked up  a new mod 30 a few years ago.   Very fun little rifle very accurate, very safe action.  hammer is a little stiff and awkward to fully retract and the trigger pull is a bit much.  Maybe she'll smooth out with a few more thousand rounds in her.   Be warned not all models have the takedown screw and come apart.  if that is or isn't what you want.  mine was 250$.  I'd check out the new TC  youth .22  that looks like a little encore they're about 190$ round here.

i have the little savage replica and love it. DO NOT buy one for a small kid. the hammer is stiff and they have problem cocking it without the thumb slipping off.its accurate and pretty good quality although the finish could be better. but good enuf for the 140$ i gave for it new.perfect truck or trapping rifle for sure.

Check on Gunbroker, there is a seller there that has Uberti 1871 rolling block hunter carbines.
They are the same scale size as the Remington # 2 actions.  He has the 22 LR and the 22 Mag. rifles for $ 425.00 and the same rifle in 17 HMR for $ 399.
