What a shame; and of course, best wishes are offered to M. Switlik that he soon sees the safe return of his cannon.
Unfortunately, because of the base metal worth of bronze, one of the first things PD's do in these cases is send alerts to scrap metal businesses.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won. He died instantly.
The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

When RI's historic 1760s cannon were finally recovered, they'd been cut up but were too hot to scrap & were abandoned. I can't write what I think should be done to those who steal not only property but our herritage.

Here's a video showing a cannon identical to the one stolen, except for the gun's name and number. I'm posting it here in case color images of this model will help find the missing piece. The images on the website are black-and-white. The video is repetitive due to an editing error. The piece shown in the video is only a few numbers away from Matt's stolen cannon.
