Voted today.
« on: November 08, 2011, 05:55:55 AM »
State elections were today. Voter apathy is horrible. News just said they only expect about a 25% turnout. The fate of our state being decided by just 25 % of the registered voters?? Thats horrible, moreso considering all those who never bother to register.  Folks are fed up with politics and corrupt politicians. No wonder we are so messed up as a nation. YES, we voted. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

NWBEAR. Not only a right/ privelege, I believe it is a DUTY. Years ago in a State election we had a crooked dem judge that was really old school. My neighbor was at work and a friend of the crooked judge came by stumping for him and passing out whiskey for votes. Tommy listened politely and the guy told him, go over to my car and get some whiskey compliments of the judge. Tommy went over and filled his coat pockets with the 1/2 pts, then locked them in his truck. The guy says, you better take off a bit early so you can vote. Tommy said, weeeeellll, I voted on my way to work. The guy was a bit miffed and said, oh well, as long as you voted for the right guy. Tommy said, NOPE, I voted for Monk, not bert. The guy about came unglued demanding his whiskey back. HEH, he didn't get it. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Voter turnout here in Ohio has been heavy, especially for an "off year" election.  Primarily because of Issue 2, a referendum to repeal SB5 which limited Public Sector Unions collective bargaining rights and required State employees to pay a higher percentage of their health care premiums and pension plans.

Unfortunately, it is looking like SB5 will be repealed.  The unions got a ton of money from out of state, and the sheeple were deceived by their lies.  Problem is that the budget issue this would have helped to correct isn't going to go away, so we'll either see tax increases or cuts in services.  Boy, will they whine when the time comes.  Too bad I will be feeling the pain along with them. :(

JustaShooter, explained that to my kids today. (I live just outside Toledo). There is just so much money to go around, and it's less now that there is less people working. My wife and I told them that in less than a year, they'll be asking for tax increase's, or there will be cutbacks. And, then the liberal politicians will be screaming about how there will be longer response times, blah, blah, blah. We've heard all the same lines. Well, times running short, and I do believe we're going to see public sector workers having to bite the bullet. Sorry, that doesn't bring a tear to my eye. gypsyman

I hear you gypsyman.  What kills me is I know a few who voted to repeal SB5 and they are otherwise very conservative people, but are blinded to the truth.  Couldn't get them to read the bill and understand it and not let the lies by the unions confuse them.

Too bad there isn't a way to limit the tax increases that are sure to come to the people that voted to repeal SB5.  But I am glad that ultimately the public sector workers will have to bite the bullet - I don't see any other way out, and like you I won't shed a tear.  They had their chance.

Powderman,

We may not always agree, but you are right on - A DUTY.

I believe it's our duty to do what (WE) believe is right! Sometimes a NO vote is the best vote.

I refuse to vote on the lesser principle. If none of the candidates running are worthy of the office (IMO) then I will vote none of the above, or write one in."In reality" I really haven't voted. Picking one of these human imposters is what's brought us to this sorry state of affairs.

It's not going to happen, but if all voters stayed home on election day, no stronger message could be sent to the lying bunch of scum suckers.............JMHOP

It's pretty much a contest between Republicans vs Democrats. Very little to do with the person running. The differences in the two parties today is so small, they need to be color coded to see it!

Dave Barry summed it up..........The Democrats seem to be basically nicer people, but they have demonstrated time and again that they have the management skills of celery.  They're the kind of people who'd stop to help you change a flat, but would somehow manage to set your car on fire.  I would be reluctant to entrust them with a Cuisinart, let alone the economy.  The Republicans, on the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn't bother to stop because they'd want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the country club.  ~Dave Barry

David "Dave" Barry (born July 3, 1947) is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American author and columnist, who wrote a nationally syndicated humor column for The Miami Herald from 1983 to 2005. He has also written numerous books of humor and parody, as well as comedic novels.

Kind of a modern day Will Rogers type actually! ;)
