HUNTSMAN ON SB2 FRAME

CAN YOU USE A HUNTSMAN 45 CAL ON A SB2 FRAME?

The only problem I could see would be ignition issues form the smaller firing pin of the SB2...
 
I don't see any safety issues, try it at the range and see... How does it fit?

I don't believe that it would fit properly.  I'll give it a try tomorrow, and let you know.

It "should" the Huntsman was made on a STD frame before the feds caught up with in-line muzzle loader manufacturers skirting the 4473 form.. Then they brought out the SIDEKICK. Which is on a shortened frame that will no longer accept STD barrels...

IIRC, the 45 cal huntsman is of pre-1987 manufacture so originally was on the old cast frame.  The only pre-87 H&R barrel I ever tried to fit to a modern frame wasn't even close.

Good point BB, the 45 cals where older models...
 
I was speaking more to the safety issues than physical size... Its still possible as my own 357 Maxi is in that era (1985) and fits modern frames just fine. A couple others I have form then do not... maybe could be made to fit tho...

I tried the 45Cal Huntsman barrel on a modern SB2 frame (which came in 223).  It easily fit, a little too easily, what I would term a sloppy fit.  There was no vertical play, but it was loose, and wiggled when you tried moving the barrel side to side.

I tried putting the 223 barrel on the 45Cal Huntsman frame, no luck.  The modern barrel lug was too wide.  I also tried a modern shotgun barrel on the Huntsman frame, and had the same results.  I guess if you had the inclination to do so, you could probably "fit" a modern shotgun barrel into the 70's Huntsman frame, by filing the lug down. 

I also made a comparison of the lug size, and found the lug length to be the same, but the lug width is I guess about a 1/16" too wide.  I misplaced my caliper, so I had to eyeball it.

1st photo is the "Frankengun" assembled.
2nd photo is a comparison of the lug length, bottom view.
3rd photo is a comparison of the lug width, side view. (with help from the wife, holding barrels)

My 50 cal Huntsman is fitted to one of my SB2 frames. Works well, just need a fore-end now.

The 45 cal is a vintage barrel made by H&R Inc, different than a modern 50 cal.

Yes, I think most, if not all 50 cals are modern Huntsman barrels and will work on an SB1 or SB2 frame.

I believe quickdtoo answered your question.  The answer is yes, a .50Cal Huntsman barrel will fit on your SB2 frame. 

The only exception is the Sidekick .50 Cal barrel, it was built for a shorter frame to get around the Fed form 4473 requirement.

I got another slant to this... I have sb1 &2, currently my huntsman is on sb2. If I switch to sb1, I'm thinking no change in point of impact? I mean the barrel is it's own separate deal, with breech plug, not like a centerfire, where cartridge rests on breech / pin? Correct? Has anyone moved their huntsman like this, and experienced accuracy problems... Huntsman fits easily on both frames!

I've switched a .50 from my SB2 frame over to my grandson's youth setup (also a SB2 frame) without issue.

I agree with Brewster, there should be no problems at all.  But at this point I have dedicated frames for my Huntsman barrels.
