Friend wants me to set his contender scope
« on: November 11, 2011, 12:38:59 PM »
A guy at work wants me to set the scope on his contender (22-250), I'm curious about the angle of teh fore arm, will it make the pistol "hold sensative" ?

If thers a certain way I need to go about setting the scope on a contender feel free to speak up, I've never had my hands on one before....but really look'n forward to it.
I've never been lost,,,just rite fearsome confused for a few months.

I would suggest resting the forearm in the bag close to the frame. Also make sure to get a consistent grip and rest each shot. Your friend also needs to shoot because if his grip pressure or hold is different his impact may be different.

Handguns are already grip sensitive, as Dave notes.  If you /he are going to shoot from a rest you'll want good eye relief.  On a 22-250 you'll want a scope that allows use of its power and range. At least use a 2-6x Bushnell.  If you want better you can shop for a used Leupold 2-8x or whatever you like.  Decide if you want a base that allows windage adjustments or a one-piece like the Weaver 92a.
If you sight it, he'll need to shoot it to confirm and refine the settings.  You'll have to decide where to set the sights at 100yds.  Use jbmballistics.com to review the trajectory you like.

I assume you mean on his Encore.   While some may have chambered a few Contender barrels for 22-250 at one time, most agree it is too much for the Contender, and no TC custom barrel shop I know of will chamber a Contender barrel for 22-250 now FWIW, not even for reduced loads.

+1 on what David said... a bag is good enough with the trigger guard of the TC right up against the bag.    You can use your off hand under the grip to stabilize it and for elevation, just do not rest the grip on the bench or you'll most likely get verticle stringing.

Thanx a million guys, didnt know exactly how to do it correctly, never had a chance to try a scoped pistol before.

Since its in 22-250 you think it mite be dangerous to shoot, I dont know the history of the gun & doubt he does because it was a gift.

you need to determine if its a Contender as stated or maybe its an Encore..I would think that it is an Encore..if its chambered for the 22-250 and is in fact a Contender I wouldn't fire it!  My face isn't much to look at..but it mine and its all I have..and my fingers are a matched set and would like to keep them that way!
