It looks like Mossberg is producing some decent levers and bolts. Why don't we hear from their fans..the real Mossbergers ?

I don't want this to come off the wrong way but here goes.( Yes, I do own a model 500 shotgun, I have had zero problems with it.)

You don't here folks expounding on the virtues of their Fruit of the Loom shorts. They get the job done, they are priced low enough that everyone interested can own one, or a pair. But in the end they do not elicit pride of ownership. Not the sort where you brag to your friends about how beautiful the wood and craftsmanship are.

You don't stop to point out what a fine nail you used to hang up that trophy, even if it does a remarkable job. It is too common.

It is the doe of the hunting gun world. Nothing to hang on the wall but provides fine eating.

I've heard plenty... People say their pumps aren't as polished (probably true) but they work good. The 3 bolt actions I've had opportunity to shoot were sub moa out of the box, but didn't come with Accutrigger etc. My buddy bought one of their .30-30's and it shoots 2" at 100 and is well fit, but most think not as nice as Winchesters etc. I personally feel they produce wonderful products as I buy guns to have them work and they are 1/3 to 1/4 the price of many manufacturers. They are hunters guns and as such work well.

I can recall the American made Mossberg .22s of the early years. Although most of them were rather plain almost all as I recall, were great shooters. My grandson has a little 342K bolt action carbine that I bought new in the 70s..still a good shooter. As I recall, it cost me just $35 and change. I would like to find one today, especially at that price..
My Marine Sgt grandson used a Mossberg 500 in places like Fallujah & Ramadi..cleaning out terrorist "safe houses"..he appreciated their dependability..

I have 3 Mossberg shotguns. NONE of the 3 have ever had a problem. All have killed several deer. NONE are safe queens. As stated above "they are working guns" I can't even tell you if there are any parts in the reciever, NEVER had to open one up to work on

Don't know about their customer service, never needed to call them

I hope you are not referring to those current, foreign made .22 which are being sold now. I should have specified the shotguns and centerfires.
The .22s which I KNOW are good, are those from the 70s & previous.

We carried the 500s for bear protection with the Forest Service in SE Alaska. Daily use in heavy rain, mud, and slop but they were very dependable.

my 835 was junk, wouldnt pattern, even with after market chokes, really rough cycling action, jammed all the time. Cust service couldnt fix it. My sons 22 bolt gun had ftf right out of the box. Took 2 months to get it back from cust service after they found it on their loading dock. They claimed I didnt send it but had the confirmation to prove it. They were rude & in competent. Mike

I have had good luck with the 2 shotguns from them, a 500 & 835. What I don't understand is why they don't make a inexpensive lever gun chambered in 357, 44, and 45 colt. They would sale a pile of them, Henry only sells them with brass frames, Marlins in the pistol calibers in my neck of the woods run $800, Winchesters are even more and hard to find, and the Puma's are not made in the USA which turns alot of people off of them. If Mossberg would price them at $450 I would be first in line for a 357 trapper but instead they would rather make a tactical lever gun in 30-30, silly. Most people that buy a lever gun is a bit more traditional and won't buy one with rails, ar buttstocks and flash-hiders. Mossberg please wake up and give us affordable pistol calibers, 444's and a 45-70 and forget the leverguns designed for zombies.

My grandson says his Mossberg shotgun worked very well when he used it as a Spec Ops Marine in Al Anbar province. A great weapon for clearing houses.
I'm with Dave...I just don't get a "tactical lever'..it looks silly to me. There definitely is a sizeable niche for straight-case levers.. such as, .357, 357 Max & .44 mag.

their effort seems to be in the military/police market. Why develope a fine bolt gun and tie up resources when the same investment can be used to fill orders for the market you know best ? The pumps they produce are not as well refined as a wingmaster but no doubt work and may infact take a beating but lack that fine gun look and feel. With reguard the way they make their bolt guns is said to be less safe than many other builders true or not I don't know.
Guess they don't spend the money on marketing to the public instead going for the military/police buyers.

Mike, I'm starting to believe you don't like Mossbergs, you only posted it 3 times.

One center-fire I have interest in is their new MVP. Its a 223/5.56 bolt gun that has a laminated stock, 24" fluted medium weight barrel with a 1 in 9 inch twist with their version of the accutrigger and it takes AR-15 magazines. I've read a couple of positive reviews but I generally wait for a new product to be in production for a bit just to make sure all the bugs are worked out, I'm curious how well it will feed from the AR mags. It appears it will be a bargin according to the MSRP.

Looks or appearance can be very subjective. Some say the Savage centerfires are ugly, but they look fine to me. i don't harbort any closet queens unless they shoot and shoot good. I'm more into using my guns rather than showing them anyway.
That's one reason I don't mind a well made composition stock..fits good, usually doesn't add weight, stands all kinds of weather and generally no need to worry about a few scratches.

The only experience I have had with Mossberg is a sharp looking little 20 gauge pump shotgun that I bought for my wife about 20yrs ago. It would not shoot center. I ran my finger down the muzzle and could feel that the screw in choke was canted in the barrel. The barrel was threaded crooked and if I remember right, it made the gun shoot way low. I sent the barrel back to Mossberg and they sent us a new one. It worked fine from there on. It is a great little shotgun for her.

I sure would like to have a 500 Persuader or 590 Special Purpose. I think the safety on their shotguns is the best over any other. That being said, I like to hunt with Ithaca M-37s and Winchester 1300s.
Not interested in anything else Mossberg sells that I know of.

I think MB has made some good guns over the years and still do. I think they are missing alot of sales by not selling .44 and .357 lever guns. Another hot seller would be a 7.62 x 39 ATR bolt action.

If I had to get rid of all my guns but one that one would be my model 500 12g. I've shot everything from quail to deer with it and it has never given me a bit of trouble.

I have a maverick shotgun and a plinkster .22 . The shotgun works great have had it 15 years. The 22 I bought 5 years ago and it works better than my Ruger 10/22 Target. It doesn't jam it's my sons favorite.

Yes; I know little about the new Mossberg .22s..let's hear about the newer Mossy .22s.
