Fire forming brass

I heard that you can make 35 whelen out of 30-06 brass, how do you do this and why would do it.(fire 30-06 in a 35 whelen gun?) Don't sound right.

That is all I use in mine, 30-06 brass is easy to find you just want to size neck so it doesn't push shoulder back to far load it up normal there is no need to use a reduced load to fireform

I place a .025 thousandth washer on top of shellholder when I adjust sizer die so it only expands neck,just make sure to lube brass well

Do you fire the 30-06 ammo through the 35 whelen rifle then size and reload it to 35 whelen?

I know that some folks have fired the 30-06 ammo in a 35 Whelen rifle, but I would advise against it. It's just too risky, IMO. I would run the 30-06 brass through a .35 Whelen sizing die and forget about fire-forming.

As long as your using 30-06 brass, just run it thru the 35 whelen die and load it. There is no fire-forming required.
 
BUT there are some calibers that do require fire-forming. 7-30 waters form 30-30 comes to mind. Same story for the 30 and 357 Herrett calibers. Only those also require excessive trimming...

Some require annealing, like 256 Win from 357 Mag.
