caliber list ?
« on: November 13, 2011, 04:22:17 AM »
Does Anyone have, or can point to, a list of calibers that have been produced in either the H&R, NEF, topper,  or handi  configurations, and or accessory barrels ?

I would also like to know wildcat calibers or reamer rechamberings you have knowledge of.

If no list exists maybe we can cut and paste a list here.

You can see the current chamberings on H&R's website, most are listed on the accessory barrel page. Some of the discontinued chamberings are 22 Rem Jet, 7.62x39, 7x57, 7x64, 357 Maxi, 38-55, 450 Marlin. The 7.62x39 may still be available as an accessory barrel even tho it's not on the website, 35 Rem and 35 Whelen should also be available. http://www.hr1871.com/Support/accessoryProgram.asp

Use the search option, it will help answer lots of your questions, the advanced search is the most useful, select just this forum from the list to expedite the search. http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php?action=search;advanced

The link below is a previous discussion on custom chamberings.

Yea, I have read that information but did not find a list of chamberings offered.
I did find the “rates of twist” list. I can not be for sure the calibers on that list were offered in production or as rechamberings, and two calibers were lined out on the list (were those two calibers not offered ?). as for the “rates of twist” list it seems most on the list are still offered, but what I am interested in is actual known calibers that are or were produced.
I have included a list that I have been working on below, please feel free to edit and repost the list to this thread.

We know that H&R 1871 LLC currently offers on their website (centerfire) :

204 Ruger
22 Hornet

22-250
243 Win
25-06
270 Win
280 Rem
7mm-08 Rem

30-06
308 Win
357 Mag
35-06 Remington
44 Mag
45-70
444 Marlin
500 S&W

Chamberings said to have been offered (centerfire) :

22 Jet
7x57
7x64
7mm Rem Mag
7.62x39
300 Win Mag
357 Max
35 Remington = confirmed
35 Whelen = confirmed
38/55 = confirmed
45 Colt = confirmed

Reamed Chamberings :

The 7mm Rem mag and 300 Win mag were never produced, they were advertised to test market acceptance, but there weren't enough distributor pre-orders to warrant testing of the required new Handi-mag frame, so it was dumped right off the drawing board.

.35-06 is the .35 Whelen.  It was a wildcat developed by Colonel Whelen by necking up the .30-06 to .35 caliber.  It was around for many years before Remington started selling it commercially.  A friend in Alaska carried one until it was stolen from his office in 1967.  The good old days - his office was in the Duckering Building on the UA campus....

What?....No .454 Casull?

I have a 460S&W which is like having a 357Maxi that the shorter rounds can be used in.  ;)

Is the .35-06 rem a new cartridge or a wildcat?

  35-06 Rem Handi Grip Handi-Rifle (SB2-2TG)

The 35-06 rem is a commercial caliber however as stated in another post it is also the 35 Whelen.

I could not find any case drawings of the two to post, but I am sure there are others here that would have that information.

The 35-06 is an old typo, the actual model number for the 35 Whelen Handi-grip is SB2-3T5.

Tim

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/64277

see that H&R is now chambering a wildcat in the Handi Grip.

35-06 Remington (SB2-2TG)

Just another one of H&R's many typos, they must have the same webmaster/editor that Gardner had!!  ;D

Could be , I was just quoting their current website for the 35-06 listed

http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Rifles/handiRifle.asp

I did not see a current listing for the 35 Whelen

Over the years there have been many errors on their website, that's just one of many, you won't find the 35 Rem either, but it and the 35 Whelen are both in current production, they only sell them regionally tho, the 35 Rem has been offered in a combo with the 444 Marlin also, another model that you won't find on the website.

On my rechambers, I only listed the "by hand" note for those I've personally done myself, if it isn't marked, they were done by a gunsmith on a lathe. The 45-90/100/110 and 454 Casull should be marked confirmed, they've all been done by hand, the Casull reamer is one of the GBO reamers I loan out, see the reamer sticky.
