Extended eye relief scopes?

Do any of you use extended eye relief scopes, allowing you to mount the ocular bell in front of the hammer? I have been searching high and low for good options in the 6" eye relief range, and I am coming up pretty empty.

I have found that Bushnell makes the banner in a 3-9x40 6"ER model, and that would fit the bill for the Hornet, but I would prefer a little higher quality. I also have a need for two more in lower power ranges.

What have y'all found to fit the bill?

See the FAQs topics on scout mounts, you need a real short scope to mount forward on a long scope mount(Weaver 82, EGW or Ultra mount), short shotgun scopes are about the only optics other than a red dot that will work for that, or a base mounted further forward in a scout position.

I have read the FAQs. And I intend to use Weaver 82 bases, not a scout mount. One of yours is a perfect example of my goal, in fact. The scope with a "buck insignia" mounted just in front of the hammer.

I have been finding that the newer production shotgun scopes are only 3.5-4" eye relief, and the EER are all 10 plus inch scout scopes. My hope is to find out exactly what scopes members here have found to work in that application, since my search is coming up dry.

2½x20 and 4x fixed scopes are likely the best to look for, a Leupold M8 would be an excellent scope to look for, lots of them made and available used like the one below, only it's in the UK. ;)

I have a Redfield, 1x4x20, IER scope but swapped it out for the 6" eye relief Bushnell.  The Bushnell Banner has quite good optics plus
more magnification.  After mounting the Bushnell the Redfield sleeps in the scope cabinet.

I have a BSA "tactical" on an Ironsighter rail, it mounts just in front of the hammer. I had to grind just a little clearance for the bell at the rear of the rail, loctie all the screws.

Note the above is used with a youth stock, on a 44 mag shortie.

Nikon Omega and SlugHunter models have 5.5+" of eye relief. Excellent quality for the money as well.

Have just mounted a 6" eye relief B-square 2 1/2 x 20 on my 45-70 .....have a 6"eye relief  2x20 Tasco on my 357...both NEF's...no third eyelid from the 45-70 any more.

You can do what you are asking about with a Simmons Pro Diamond 4X32. As long as it is not the master series. Tru Glo also makes a 2X red dot.

Now we are getting somewhere. The Omega is listed at 4.5" in the catalogue that I referenced. I guess that I better check that out in person. I didn't even consider B-Square, I'll check them too. And I'll cross reference to see if the Simmons pro diamond that I checked out was not master series.

I actuall bought the true glo 2x last weekend, and I already hate it.

Unless Nikon has changed specs, the two scopes I mentioned have eye reliefs of well over 5". I own a lot of different Nikons and own 2 Omegas and 1 Slughunter. Both are excellent, rugged, bright, clear scopes with precise and repeatable click adjustments. The Omega wins a lot of shooting/hunting magazine awards and write ups for it's quality.

You'll need a custom mount to get an Omega ahead of the hammer.

Read the OP's original post, he wants the scope mounted ahead of the hammer, and FWIW, those super high mounts are ridiculously too high IMO.  ;)

I once set up a .30-06 Handi with a 2 1/2 X pistol scope and Burris LU-Scout bases (for Remington rifles).  I had to have the barrel drilled & tapped but otherwise it worked well.  It was easy to carry with the scope way out there, and I could keep both eyes open when sighting.  Then I sold it...   :'(

I'm using a Weaver K4 scout scope on my .357. It has a 9" eye relief.

i found 2 of those....GREAT  EYE RELEIF FOR A HANDI


not sure  if  mine is even   2X....eye releif may  even be more than 6


one is mounted on a  35 remington
the other is waiting for a home

Simmons pro diamond with low mounts stays in front of hammer. I use three of them on my handi's now they work great no need for a hammer spur

I have the Nikon Omega 1.65-5x36, and agree with JimG, the eye relief is over 5".  But like Quickdtoo says, you need high rings, and the  scope doesn't allow you to mount the ocular bell in front of the hammer.

If you didn't need the magnification, you could consider a red dot. The problem is no magnification, but plenty of eye relief. :-\
