Howdy,

I have been loading .45 lc in a Dillon progressive press. Have noticed that I'm getting a small bulge in the case after seating the bullet and crimping. Any idea what could be going on? Could it be the seating die?

If the bulge is at the bottom of where the base of the bullet would be, thats pretty normal. It's just the case streching back out as the bullet goes in. It can look kind of off center or more pronounced on one side. If it still chambers OK then you really don't have a problem. If the bulge is at the top just below the crimp then your probably over crimping the case. KN

The fix for this is a set of Dillon pistol dies. They use a bullet seater only in the 3rd stage and a taper crimp in the 4th stage. Your ammo will come out looking, fitting, and shooting much better. Of course they clip you 50 bucks for the dies. I finally gave in and bought Dillon pistol dies for all my calibers. Should have done that years ago.

KII thanks pard. It's down at the bottom of the bullet. Lowegan, these are Dillon's pistol dies. Will check the crimp. :-D

To set up your Dillon dies, Make sure you have the powder die set to bell the case mouth slightly. Unscrew the seater die so it's about 1 turn from touching the case, then set the bullet seater. On the taper crimp, adjust for a snug feel when the handle is down. If you try to apply too much crimp, it will damage the cases.
