Benelli M2, review/question
« on: November 14, 2011, 07:54:30 AM »
Well, I got this thing as a wedding gift 7 years ago and have had a chance to use it on a number of hunts. And by the way, my wife said the same thing, yes, he is a really good friend to buy me a benelli M2.

good:

  • THis thing wont jam. I have loaded it with a 3, then a 2.75 and then another three and fired as quickly as I could. No jams. Light loads, no jams. Heavy loads, no jams.
  • Light as a feather, I have not held a lighter shotgun. I live in colorado and when grouse hunting in the mountains, every ounce counts. A light shotgun is your friend
  • Fit, it comes with shims to fit it to an individual. I know nothing about fitting so I didnt mess with it.
  • Sights, the red fiber optic sight at the end is actually helpful. I do like it and would reccomend it
  • Choke tubes, it comes with 5 of these things. Never changed them up before, but I started when I go this thing and have found myself choking it to the game and terrain. Nice.
  • recoil, it really does reduce recoil, but run through 100 rounds and you'll still know it. I weigh 170 pounds and I really could shoot it all day, but I'd know it
  • Case, it comes with a nice case that you have to break it down to fit in it
Bad:

  • the assembly of this gun is a bit of a pain given that you have to break it down to fit it in the case
  • reciol pad, its a really good one, but it falls off if you dont watch it. I was dove hunting this summer/fall and after retrieving a dove, found my recoil pad lying on the ground. Lucky I found it.
  • darned expensive, the guys I hunt with always rib me just a little, they are shooting remingtons and winchesters. THey keep it to a minimum as I outshot two of them once with it. It was a lucky day for me.
Overall, the best shotgun I have ever owned!
anyone else have the recoil pad fall off?

Kinda old but I have an M2. I bought it a handful of years back on a whim. It's a great shotgun, not all that common since they cost a good amount. I bought the 24" 'steady-grip' version, mostly for turkeys & predator calling. I have taken it down a time or 2 for a good cleaning. I go slow & check the manual if needed.  The steady-grip feels great in the hands for fast action, close range predator calling.
