Good Luck tomorrow and be safe!
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:54:18 AM »
Just wanted to wish my fellow Michiganders luck and a safe opening morning.  ;)  Not looking good down south here due to the overwarm temps.  We'll see though.  ;)

+1 on the good luck and be safe.

Maybe some rain showers up here, but it'll still be a good day in the woods!

Been a fairly lame season here for most.  I got lucky and tagged an old buck.  Hit him on a full run and he was down in 15 steps.  Love a 300 gr. bullet... ;)

for years i kicked but on everyone at camp but the only one connecting so far is my hot shot nephew who got two 8 pointers. Hes been kind of kicking my but for about 4 years now. Hes younger and stronger and hunts like i used to. Hell getting old!! Only bucks ive seen so far are 3 different spikes.

Lol, no, the light played with the picture and hid the rope and gambrel hook I had around his horns.  ;)  I might pick him up one handed for a moment, but I wouldn't be smiling like that.  ;)  GRUnting more like it.  hehe

I let a 4 point go by opening day early, then shot this buck that evening,

I've been seeing 7 to 13 deer every evening since, (small bucks and does, 12 tonight) and i did shoot two does so far too...

Thanks guys...  I hunt my own property here in W. Mi.,

That buck is the biggest "wild" buck i've ever seen in this state.  I know there are bigger bucks, but i've never seen one!

My 76 yr. old "go to gun" just keeps putting the meat in the freezer...   8)

Yes, it's a Krieghoff Semper drilling, made in 1935,

I've been hunting with it since the early 80's, takeing moose and bear on down to havolina and coyotes all with the same handloaded ammo...  The 200NP at 2,550 fps...loaded in the 8x57jrs cartridge, works VERY well as an all around cartridge/bullet/load.  At 7 pounds, it's a joy to carry, and it's VERY accurate too,

Every once in a while i invite a friend to hunt with me and sometimes use my drilling, they love the thing too!  lol

I think my big buck above, is the "28th" one shot kill in a row on big game, with this gun...   8)

I'd love a drillings, but the cheapest I've found is more than all the guns I currently own and my reloading equipment.  Just not feasible for me.  8(  I am looking at a project for a dual barreled .62 caliber slug gun.  It'll weigh about 10 lbs, but with some regulation to cross at about 50 yards, I think it'll be a super fun project.  Who know.  Too many projects half started now.  lol

I've been offered decent drillings for $1,500.00 on up, and at 1500 is was a decent scoped gun a person could hunt with.   I've seen many "as new" for under 3K.

If someone really wants a drilling to hunt with, they will find an affordable drilling "IF" they take the time to look for one.

I love those guys that own 15 or 20 guns and say they can't afford a drilling!  lol  (i'm NOT talking about you)

If I found one for $1500 that was still there by the time I could save that much, it'd be MINE!  lol  I'd dearly love a double 12 w/ a 7x57mm...  Ah the art of dreaming.  ;)  I had an original fully engraved german custom 7x57mm double rifle shoved in my face the other day, hehe.  My buddy said he knew I was one of the few people he knew that'd appreciate it.  He got it as a hand me down too.  What a beauty.  8(
