I disagree.  I found several great deals on bolt action hunting rifles at the recent Wannamacher show in Tulsa.  I find smokin' deals every time I go.  This last one was no different.  I think $400.00 for a brand spankin' new Remington 721 is a heck of a good deal and by brand spankin' new, I mean exactly that.  The thing still had factory preservative on the metal surfaces including the interior of the bore.  I seriously don't think it had ever been shot since it left Ilion N.Y. in '48.  And that was only ONE of many equally good deals I came across. I find deals because I do pretty much what Mannyrock has described in his posts on this thread.  Sometimes I buy stuff just because I know I can flip it later for a profit.  As an example, I bought an as new Baikal IZH 43 12 bore double barrel shotgun at a show for $165.00 and BEFORE I walked out of the door, I had a guy offer me $350.00 for a gun I had just bought not five minutes before.  Count me as one who still thinks you can find deals at shows.  Actually, count me as one who knows you can, because I still do, and all I do is pretty much what Mannyrock has already mentioned.  If it works for him AND me, it can work for anyone else.  I wasn't shopping for a 721 specifically.  I never go to a show looking for a specific gun.  I look for a smokin' deal.  I find plenty of 'em, too.  You just gotta know how to play the game and be willing to walk out empty handed.

There are deals at most shows . Timming is everything . You either get there early and get the guns priced to sell or go late and deal with the guy needing to sell to break even. Many over look the guys walking around holding a gun as many are for sale. Often these guys have had a seller offer a lowball amount for the gun and are willing to sell for just a tad more thinking they did better than a dealer would do for them.

Might I ask, what is your budget?  Budget rifle can mean many things to many people.  Also, how far are you planning on shooting?  Have you ever considered a decent inline muzzy?

Well, I was talking to a friend of mine the yesterday who has his ffl. I was asking about his prices on different rifles. He asked me what exactly I was looking for. When I told him he said his father has a Remington 700 30-06 that has been shot maybe a total of 10 times. It is "4 or 5 years old" and has a Simmons 3X9 on it.  Been sitting in his safe collecting dust. He is wanting to sell this rifle. I asked about the rifle, ADL, SPS, BDL? and he said he wasn't sure as he had not looked at it in a long while. He did say it had a black synthetic stock, no drop out floor plate, and it did have iron sites. This confuses me because I didn't think ADL's came with irons, but they also don't have the drop out floor plate? Anyway, I will be looking at the gun tomorrow. He commented that his dad was looking for a Taurus Judge. Well, I just happen to have one new in box that I am looking to get rid of. He offered me an even trade for the rifle. If the rifle is in as good a condition as he says and everything is good about it, would this be a fair even trade? I have had the Judge for close to a year and never shot it for some reason or another. Just wondering about other opinions.

MMT as long as you think you're happy with that Remington and the other guy is happy with your Taurus, then that's a heck of a deal, jump right in the middle of it. Hopefully we get a happy range report from your new rifle in a couple of days. ;)

Agreed.  You have a chance to get rid of something you don't want and get something you do want.  All without investing a dime.  Get all over that!

Sounds like it is this style ADL.  Only type I've seen with sights and black stock.  The BDL's are pretty, but a lot pricier.

He was 100 percent sure it was a 700. I asked him today and he says he is sure. The irons don't bother me at all. I will Serbian tomorrow what the gun is for sure and what condition its in.

I have 2 Savage Edges (Axis now) and 2 Marlin XL7's. All shoot MOA , excellent hunting rifles. I've had  Steven 200's, they were fine too. My season opens in the morning (Oklahoma), will take 2 rifles, Weatherby 257 and Remington Model 7 243..........Almost decided on the Savage Edge 7-08, will use it before season is over.........

How are the actions in the Edges? I picked one up in the gunshop last year and it seemed a bit noisy and sloppy.  Could be it was just that one gun.  It was the only one I ever handled.

 The action on these Axis rifle's are about like any of the 110 actions. The magazine looks a bit chinsy.

If you're looking for bargin used guns check out pawn shops in areas where casinos have reciently been built. You don't see them in areas where the casinos have been around for awhile, but where they are new some of the locals who have no disicipline get into trouble and would hawk their wives if their were a market for them.

yup walmart up here has camo stocked adl 700s in 243 270 06 and 7mag with a cheap scope for 425. Hard to beat that deal.

Well, i made the trade and unloaded the judge for a remington 700. Nothing fancy but i don't think the gun has been shot more than a handfull of times. I won't be able to shoot it until next week but am looking forward to it. Black synthetic stock with matte. Black finish and iron sites. It already has a Simmons aetec 2.8 x 10 on it that is very clear for a Simmons even at high magnification. Thanks for all the opinions guys.

Can't go wrong with a Savage/Stevens bolt action. My old Savage 110 in 30-06 was one of those rifles I wished I never got rid of.
It was just a plain looking rifle, but the thing felt good and just darn worked and shot good.
I almost bought a Maverick from the local gun shop about a month ago in 308. But for a few more dollars found this Stevens 200 in the shop. Picked it up and instantly the feel of my old model 110 came back to me. So that's all it took. So I traded a couple of firearms for it. Bought a scope rail, rings and traded for a scope on GB. I guess may trading cost for it with rail and scope was about $350-$375.
