Mother nature...the ultimate recycler. Carcasses gone!
« on: November 16, 2011, 04:20:23 AM »
I shot two does this year and put the carcasses in the back yard next to the woods to watch the critters pick at them.  Saw a fox and a couple of crows.  Woke up this morning and there was not even a bone chip left!  We have coyotes out here in the suburbs and you are not allowed to discharge a firearm.  Otherwise I would have been laying in wait and mother nature would have a couple of song dogs to recycle too ;D

It sure doesn't take long for mother nature clean up ;)

Hope you have a safe and successful hunting season!

We had a cow die on us when I was a youngin' and we hung it in a tree.
We sat out there in the evening for several days getting shooting practice in.  ;)
Back then yote pelts were still bringing a good price.
It was a triple bonus.
Tax write off, shooting practice, and money in our pockets.  ;D

When I got married in '96, our honeymoon was spent traveling. On the last leg of the trip, we spent 4 days in Idaho, with my aunt. She took us to the local hardware store, and bought 500rds. of .22. When I asked her what it was for, she said we had a job to do while we were there. Rockchucks and ground squirrels needed to be thinned out. So, when my wife and I grabbed a couple 5 gal buckets to sit on, and carry some water out to the fields, she asked me, are we going to have to pick up all the dead carcasses, and bury them. I kinda gave a chuckle, and said that the creature's of the night would take care of that problem. Sure enough, the second day, we went out for a couple hours, to ''work''. She made the comment, I don't see any dead ones laying around, just some blood stains in the dirt. She likes to shoot, but really doesn't have any desire to hunt. But, this was up her alley. Soon as we get some money saved up,(just about have the house paid for :) ) I don't think I'll have much of a problem talking her into a varmint hunt out west!!gypsyman

two years ago on Thanksgiving day I was at our lease in South Jawja.... I hunted in my stand over a great food plot from before daylight in subfreezing weather to about 8 am.  I had to get down and walk around to warm up so I started to meander over to another food plot.   I saw a group of buzzards circling slowly and then saw them roosting in the dead trees around the next plot.   I kept walking to see what the buzzards  were interested in when I saw a magnificent 8 point rack sticking up out of the grass.   as I got closer I saw a greasy patch of grass with the intestines strung out and 15 feet away was the remainder of the deer attached to the rack.  The old buck was missing one of his hind quarters, with the other one chewed on a bit.   front quarters were still intact.  but all around was red uncoagulated blood.    I could see the deer had been shot from a broadside angle right at the front of the ribcage, exploding several ribs and breast bone but not deep enough for an instant kill.   I suspect this boy ran at least a half mile from the adjacent club after receiving an errant shot.  He came over onto our lease and was pulled down by our coyote population which started the dismemberment.
I took the head back to camp and showed  the rest of the gang.   Went back out at 3 pm to the area and the vultures were en masse.  they were all feeding on the gut pile.   The only thing remaining of the body was a big pile of skin and fur.    Those yodel dogs done et or carried off the rest.    The circle of life!

I would have tried with a bow or crossbow.  Maybe even one of those super-duper powered airguns.  Yeah your right about nature and recycling.

in E,Texas where I hunt , we have left gut piles of deer and come back the next day and it`s gone only a slight trace of old blood stain and a few flies! a little rain comes and no sign of anything left. Coyotes, foxes and possums, crows and buzzards quite the efficient sanatation crew!!

As a boy, I was always amazed at how quickly ants could demolish a small animal's body.
