painting stainless steel

Unless you are trying to get within INCHES of the game, there isn't a reason to paint it flat black.  There are so many "holes to the sky" in the forest with their inherent "white clouds" beyond that your SST gun should not cause you pause for concern.  Your personal presence in the forest is by far a greater risk for your being spotted than the size and color of you SST gun.  You are not 'waving" it around out there are you?  Brandishing it at the game that is...they get "particular" when you do that.

  i agree with this also. about the only thing it bothers are squirrels if they get close

I painted my stainless Ruger 77-22. It's brown now and has been that way for many years. The squirrels hate it!  ;)

Don't they sell a camouflage tape or film that you can put on your pistol, and remove when needed?
Seems to me to be a better choice than painting it.  I did that once with a rifle, never again. :P

Painting stainless is no different than painting steel, aluminum or anything else.  You just have to use the right primer and paint.  Why anyone would want to devalue their gun by doing so is beyond me.  Wearing blaze orange while trying to camo your gun just makes no sense to me.

Yes they do - that is exactly what I did with my Ruger SRH.    I will say though the cleanup after removing the tape can be tedious.

ok for the most part i dont like to hunt were i see more orange then deer.  so i head in to the thickest of naste under brush i can find. in this thick cover 30 foot is a long shot. i have had deer sneek in and blow 10 ft from me and im sure the deer cought my movement too. but a 6"s.s. 686 s&w what a glare.
i have used the camo tape before and as said the clean up is no fun.
my thought is if i just spray it lightly so not to gum any moving parts. (do not clean s.s. be for paint)
the paint should wash off with some good carb cleaner after season..
just looking for a better idea...

If all you wanted to do was dull the finish I wonder if you couldn't just smoke it a little like you do bullet molds?
Don't know if it's a good idea or not, just a suggestion to think about.
