Has anyone ever tried some of the alliums- flowering onions- sold by seed companies to see how they taste?

I can't say that I have tried them. Let us know how they are if you try them.

It will depend on just which one it is.  All are edible, and flavors can be mild to strong, and from shallot to garlic to leek to onion.  Heck, just look at onions and the different flavors they have.

I wouldn't try eating any that I got from seed companies since they may be treated with something to prevent mold. But let them seed, then plant, and you should be good to go.
