Gone To Deer Camp
« on: November 17, 2011, 01:38:15 PM »
I'm heading out in a few hours to our camp in south eastern Oklahoma.
This going to be very special trip my oldest grand daughter is going with me.
It will be her first time deer hunting she just turned 16 and has a brand new drivers permit.
Y'all wish her luck as for me I can't get any luckier than I am having her go with me.
I'll holler at y'all when I get back and tell you how things went.
Y'all have a safe and successful rifle season and a blessed Thanksgiving.

Pat,
This sounds like the makings of a successful hunt, regardless if she gets a deer or not. ;)

Is she driving? ::)  Just in case, I think I'll stay at the house this weekend. ;D  There's an old saying my family uses whenever one of the youngsters gets their license. "So and so just got their license, guess the sidewalks aren't safe anymore." :D

Thanks, Dinny

Good luck. I'm headed to my little shack this morning after we get groceries and ice in the coolers. Was going to bow hunt but with the cold weather coming next week may have to saw a little wood. The bucks have been going nuts the last week and I hope they are still chasing. Will make for an interesting week. Hope you and the grandkid have fun trip. My grands are going with their dad but they are 2 and 4 so a lot of hunting is not predicted for him lol.

I got this one @ 7:43am opening morning. Not the monster he looked like from the side but he is tall , just as wide as his ears though. @ 141 pounds he will make a spot in the freezer.  I only saw one at the check station that beat mine  but he dwarfed mine massive 12 point at least 21" wide.

That's still a nice deer! Alot better than what I have even seen this year... :(  Ft Sill has closed off deer hunting now that the quotas have been met. So I'm done for the year, another one by and no deer for me. Oh well , there's always next year. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

Well I made it back we didn't find a shooter buck but we had a great time.

Camp was small this year only 3 of us we've had as many as 30.
They clear cut all the way around us last year it feels strange not having big trees surrounding camp.

We had around 6" of rain and some cool temps but the deer were not moving much.

This is what made it the best camp ever. It was her first camp hunt. She helped clean 2 does she even dissected the organs.
She tried fried spam for the first time and liked it  ;D She even wanted some for breakfast the next morning.
Now let me brag on her she's a straight A student. She has been to the national karate championships 3 times she has taken 2 first and a second in her division. She has 2 basket ball championships under her belt. She has a job and volunteers at the food bank.
But most of all she's her Papa's girl and has been ever since she was born.

Looks like yall had a good set up. Great looking kid you have there and hope you get to share more adventures with her. I really checked out that Samurai too. Great little rig there. Deer Hunting is whats fun. Deer killing just turns to work.
We saw more good bucks but held out for a bigger one. Family put tags on two more small bucks but we never saw a doe???????? while hunting the last two weekends. We still need to thin some does during bow season.
