Choate Barrel extender
« on: January 13, 2004, 07:45:41 AM »
I see one of these listed on eBay where a 14" barrel can be legally converted to be used on a carbine stock.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3653302948&category=36258&rd=1

Can this be easily added and removed?  And it is legal?

Thanks for any information.

Don't know how easy it is to assemble, but as long as it is "permanently attached" to the barrel it should meet the requirements of ATF. They used to have a FAQ on their web site asking if muzzle brakes, flash suppresors etc could be counted as barrel length and that was their answer.

IAW BATF - Permenantly attached equates to high temp silver solder or welded on. If this gets the overall length of the barrel over the 16" minimum requirement, you're good to go.
