Encore fore end screws?
« on: January 13, 2004, 10:16:18 AM »
I remember this being posted, but can't find it.  What is the threading and length on the Encore forend screws?  I'm going to put some washers in, and need to buy some longer ones.  Any better ways to free float than SS washers?

Thanks,
Steve

Doc, If your using a walnut or a laminated forend you can just get out the old sandpaper and go town. I did my laminated forend. I now have barrel clearance everywhere but at the barrel lugs. No need to search for forend screws as they worked fine after sanding. After you have it opened up enough make sure you reseal the sanded wood with something like Birchwood Casey sealer to keep it from swelling due to moisture.

After I floated the barrel on my 209x50, it seemed like the group size was the same, which was already very good . The only big difference was the POI had dropped about 2" straight down no windage shift at all.

Accurizing tricks?

Composite stock.   I have seen references to rubber O rings, SS washers, electrical tape, sanding, mail-order hangers, magic crystals, and one disturbing mention of ritual sacrifice.

Excluding the last, is there a consensus on which works the best on a composite forend 25-06 that is currently shooting about 1 MOA?  Season is over, rifle killed 3 deer for my son, now we have time to tweak it.

We love this rifle.  3rd barrel, but this one looks like a keeper.  Talked about a trigger job, but my son likes it just like it is.

Advice?
Steve

DogDoc,

I put a 2# trigger spring in mine and an oversize hinge pin.  Forend is stock from T/C.  Mine shoots everything in the 1-1.25" range.  I have smacked 5 with it this year.  Last Friday I shot a big doe in the neck/head joint at 119 yards.  Never a doubt if I could pull it off.  If you are already in the MOA range I wouldn't touch it.  At least not something I couldn't undo rather easily.  I tried rubber O-rings on mine, it didn't like them.  Groups opened up to around 3.5-4".  I don't know why but I do know I took them out pronto.  Good luck.

If I recall correctly, a prior post (many moons ago) said they found SS screws at Ace hardware.

Neopreme washers, or teflon washers
« Reply #8 on: January 21, 2004, 08:19:08 PM »
I went down to Home depot  today and got both some neopreme washers and teflon washers.  The neopreme washers seem to be a winnner.  They really float the barrel.  I got some really good long range accuracy today.
