22 hornet in a 10 inch thompson center contender

I have a chance too get a 22 hornet in a contender, how does it shoot, octagon barrel and what type of forearm I need, Thanks baitcaster

Most of the Hornet barrels should very good. The octogan barrels are lighter than the bull, but should still shoot pretty decent. The foreend is a little short thing IIRC has only one screw.
 
I had my barrel rechambered to the 22 KHornet, similar to an Ackley Improved cartridge. Kilborn I think was the guy that designed this case, way before Ackley started doing it. Anyway, the KHornet has a little more case capacity but the best part is the brass does not lengthen very much at all from firing it. The standard hornet needs frequent trimming.
 
If you are getting a great deal on the package that is good, if the deal is around normal pricing I would hold out for at least a 10" bull barrel. The 14" are great and usually a little more accurate. Or you can go ahead and get it as you won't be able to resist buying additional barrels once you are hooked! LOL.

   The 22 Hornet is great at 100 yards and under.  I chrono'ed mine at 1750-1800 fps with lead 225438s and 4227 powder.  They use very little lead and powder and reloading is simple.  Neck size die gets you the most accuracy. 
 
    I did try V-max 50 grainers with 8.0 grains of N110, 3/4" at 100 meters!!

I just re-chambered my own 22 hornet. Rented a reamer and turned it into a k hornet. Reamer showed up in 2 days, barrel was all stripped down and locked up in a vise. Turned the reamer by hand with a tap wrench, used with lots of cutting fluid. 20 minutes later, I had a K hornet. Cleaned and oiled the reamer, put it into the prepaid shipping box and mailed it home. Now I just need to find time to go and convert a bunch of hornets. I ordered from Reamer Rentals, but there is another rental service that is a site sponsor here also. Both work pretty much the same. If you are just improving an existing chamber, say to a K Hornet or like a 30-30 Ackley improved, it is a fairly simple process that you can do yourself. Especially when dealing with a contender barrel and rimmed cartridges. Just run the reamer in until the original rim recess is just touched by the reamer and you are done.

My 10" octagon 22 Hornet and 218 Bee are super accurate.  You will need a forend that is inletted for the octagon barrel.
 
When I got mine I did not have a forend so I glass bedded a Herrett stlye to fit the octagon barrel and use it with both the Hornet and Bee with no accuracy isues.  The attachment screw hole must be relocated as they are not in the same position on the octagon and bull barrels.
