Picked up my son's (10) Marlin 336Y yesterday!
« on: November 21, 2011, 12:24:11 PM »
In August my son (10) and I went to my friends hunting camp to do some, actually a lot of shooting and so he could ride his ATV.  He shot my Marlin 336C 35 Rem. and really liked it.  Said he wanted one.  I told him it was to big for him, of course he said it wasn't.  A few days later when to Dick's Sporting Goods and they had the 336Y 30-30 Win. for $399.99.  The guy let him hold it and he absolutely loved it, it fit him way better.  A day later we were at Gander Mountain and they had one on their clearance table for $344.99.  He ran right to it and said this is the little one I like.

He's my shadow and it's hard for me to leave the house without him.  A day or so later he was playing with his friends so my wife told me to go out to Gander Mountain and put it on layaway while he wasn't with me.  Great idea to me.  I asked the guy if they had the box and everything that go's in the box.  He said yes, it's in the back where they keep their firearms.  I paid my Sept., Oct. payments and picked it up in Nov. as planned.

When I picked it up, they couldn't find the box that it came in.  They gave me a nice case and said they'd get me an owners manual and hammer offset spur for the hammer if you put a scope on it.  I was in a hurry and said ok.  Filled out all the paper work and took it home.  When I got it home I took my 336C 35 Rem. out of the safe to see how much smaller the 336Y (short 12" LOP stock and 16.25" barrel) was then my rifle. . . . .HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

They gave me a different gun altogether.  It was a 336W.  I called them ASAP.  Their gunsmith answered the phone and I told him what happened.   He told me he'd look into it and call me back once he figured out what happened to the 336Y we put on layaway.  He called me back a while later and nobody knew where the 336Y went and none of their distributors had any in stock.  The next day one of their managers called me.  I told her it was a Christmas present for my son so I didn't need it right away and we had some time to find one.  She said they'd try as hard as they could to find us one and make it right.

She called me a day or two later and said they found one and it was on it's way to their store, but to give them a week or two for them to receive it.  Sounded good to me.  My son and I were hunting Saturday and their gunsmith called and told my wife it came in.  Yesterday I went to give the 336W back and pick up the 336Y.  The one they ordered was better then the one I originally put on layaway.  The fit and finish was much better then the first one.  The wood is better, just and over all nicer carbine.  It also came with a Weaver scope base, rings and a cheap 3-9x40mm scope.  The first one didn't come with any extra's.  If he does want to put a scope on it we'll get a 2-7x33mm Redfield Revolution or a similar Leupold.

Over all it worked out great and he's going to be happy, NYH1!

I'm happy to read all worked out OK.

BTW, A pity that the youth model doesn't come in 35 Rem.  ;)

It is a moot point now, I would have been willing to cut the butt to fit....................WAIT !!

I did this to my only 35 Rem to fit my teenage daughter many Moons ago. Sad to say, she hasn't used the rifle in years and it is sitting in a closet somewhere. :(
