Sounds like somebody used a 303 British case to form another cartridge case.  One of the Japanese cartridges was a direct copy of the 303 British rd. without the rim and was used for MG ammo.

Did the seller make any note of it having the rim turned down.  I wouldn't plan on using it in any 303 British rifle since the case head spaces off the rim at least on the first firing anyways.  At this point with no rim it basically scrap brass.

The 7.7 Japanese round is basically a rimless 303 Brit.  The machine gun ammo is actually a rimmed round very much like the 303 brit but has a smaller rim.  If you want that round you have a nambu machine gun.  Nothing else was chambered for it.   I wonder if that is what he was trying to make.
I once read an article about the arasaka action being the srongist of the WWII actions.  In hte test they took two of each action, chambered it for 30-06 and made over proof loads.  All the Arasaka did was throw the barrel, changing the threads the actions still worked where the springfield, Mauser and Enfield all failed and would not work after the test.

With just the rim turned off there would be no way to extract the round from the chamber ( except ckeaning rod ) , no matter what type of round they were trying to make , it would not work very well .

Sounds like a PM to the seller is in order , just to find out what gives .

You sure he wasn't trying to make a 303 Savage out of it (smaller rim)?

303 savage is almost like a 30-30 with a different neck.
I think the base of the cases are very different between the 303 Brit and Savage.
