30-30win handi put the meat on the table
« on: November 22, 2011, 04:50:20 PM »
Well It wasn't me using it but my 12 year old son and his mother sat together on are whitetail opener....I loaded  some 160 FTX hornady bullets loaded with imr 4064.....He shot a doe first and a 8 point with a 17 1/2 inch spread... Not to bad for his first year..... It was fun listening to him hammer in the valley.... He made me proud when he called me on the radio and asked me to come and see what he shot.....I enjoy him shooting deer better than me shooting deer anymore.... The handi had the survivor stock with the butt pad removed and a thin but plate installed so when you put your warm close on the rifle isn't to long....Up here in wisconsin its always cold hunting....Dale

congratulations! Sounds like he will be hooked. Please add this to the Handi success thread -the 30-30s can use a couple numbers. Thanks thejanitor

I was 12 when I first started hunting whitetail deer, now in my 32nd season afield, I can say I still suffer from Buck Fever, and still remember the first few seasons like they were just yesterday.

Congratulations to the lad, and I hope you are proud of yourself for setting him up for a life long addiction  ::) ;D ;)

Congrats to you and your son. I have 3 young ones under 4 and already cant wait for the feeling you just experienced. I am already working up reloads for my 30-30 and 7.62x39 for them to use. I might be a little to early but I will be prepared.

Those youngin's and the 30-30 Handi or Topper is just to much fun. I'm fixin up a 30-30 Topper for each of my six grandsons. I'm having fun doing so, and it's a great hobby putting these together.

Pass my congrats on to your son. Good Shootin for the young man. I'm from just west of Green Bay and so far this year the season has been warm. But those cold Cheeseville days are just around the corner.
Here is the latest 30-30 Topper with 20 inch barrel Choate Synthetic stock and Numrich slim profile Topper forend. I working at matching the forend finish to the buttstock, using truck bedliner paint.
