The Obama administration on Wednesday backed off a draft policy to restrict target shooting on federal land near residential areas

Any draft proposal regarding recreation on public lands must continue to guarantee hunting opportunities

Pure BS post. Obama did not step up and support gun owners, he realized he was running into a wall and caved. This was NOT the administration's words:

He must have stuck his head out the window and checked for the direction the wind was blowing and knowing that this was going to be a loosing battle ( in regards to getting himself re-elected) decided to back peddle a bit on that and go back to the drawing board and find another way to take a shot a law abiding gun owners. Maybe this time he will come up with something a little less risky to his administration and lower profile than Project Gun Runner, its not like he can afford to have any more egg on his face. I mean thus far he has already made Jimmy Carter look like a freaking genuis and it aint 2012 yet! In a best case scenario we still have 12 more months of this clown to go. That still leaves a lot of time to really screw things up beyond all hope.

I think Obama is even smart enough to know that making laws against gun owners is a big mistake. Anything he does in favor of gun owners is because he wants votes. If anyone thinks he is gun owners friend, they are highly mistaken.

No. That would be called "supporting unions". The only people who get the work. Same as he did in Nevada for Harry Reid before the elections to help him get elected last time. Well, that and voter fraud when the unions were the only ones allowed to count votes. It's not about gun owners, it's about union payback. But many are fooled by it anyway, evidently. Encluding the NRA, who can't be trusted to make the right decisions anymore as seen in the last election. Reid campaigned on opening a 61 million dollar shooting range by attending 4 "grand openings" right before the elections. 61 million tax dollars for a union only, built shooting range. I'm sure the folks in Kansas didn't mind pitching in on that.
And really, how does building 61 million dollar shooting complexes for union payback reinforce the 2nd Amendment?

You left out that he pushed for legislation that would have created a 5 mile gun shop exclusion zone around schools and parks. This after refusing to vote in favor of a bill that created a 1000 FOOT adult book store exclusion zone around schools because it would be undue interference on legal commerce.

Also, he continues the lie that somehow the Scary Black Rifle Ban that sunset in 2004 would keep full auto firearms off the streets. That had nothing at all to do with full auto, only semi-auto.

Actually, not at your local gun shop, but in some states you can buy a tank. Now, please provide us with verifiable incidents of tanks legally owned by private citizens being used in crimes. The only incident I can think of involving a tank was back in 95 when a guy stole a tank from a National Guard Amory in San Diego. But, that wasn't a privately owned tank.

In my decades of discussing the attempts to write the 2nd out of the BoR with member of the powerful and well financed anti-civil rights lobby, if they don't yell "F-U" and storm off after about two minutes, they get to this level, and somehow think that it makes a point - maybe that anyone who wants a tank will automatically turn into some sort of zomboid killing machine. They also, invariably, snap "Well, I know that if I had a gun now I would shoot you." Along with wishing that I or my family would be shot by others. I think they know that they have no self discipline and no self control, but since they are o, so tolerant, diverse, and of superior morals and intellect, if they themselves can't be trusted with anything more dangerous than a sponge, then obviously no beings of lesser morals and intellect can be either.

To Andy1300: I apologize on behalf of anyone who legally owns a gun who has improperly threatened you. If you will identify them for me, I'll personally call them and tell them how wrong they were. You can also report them to the police. Perhaps you could tell us more about what happened?

This will probably frighten you as well: There are probably lots more people out there, maybe even some in your neighborhood, who have passed the Federal background checks and LEGALLY purchased firearms and LEGALLY own them in accordance with local, state, and Federal laws. Like me...and I don't hunt any more. I just like to shoot at paper and plastic targets.

If that's not scary enough: There are places where, after passing the Federal background checks and paying the necessary costs, people can LEGALLY purchase, own, and even shoot, automatic weapons. I even saw a few artillery pieces with ammo for sale in the latest issue of Shotgun News. Folks can even own short-barreled weapons, with suppressors, after passing the necessary Federal background checks and paying the necessary fees. And tanks as well.

Here's the kicker: Even studies by the Brady Bunch and Handgun Haters, Inc, and Hoplophobes Anonymous have shown that you're far less likely to be harmed by those folks I just described, above, than you are by your local pimps, dealers, dopers, burglars, thieves, robbers, and gangbangers...who ILLEGALLY have all kinds of scary ILLEGAL weapons.

Having said that, I know that it's impossible to convince a liberal gungrabber/gunhater with facts, logic, and common sense that it's neither we Second Amendment lovers, nor our LEGALLY-owned firearms, that are your enemies. But we really, really aren't. We just believe in the Second Amendment with the same fervor that you believe in the First.

Makes me rather wonder what you are doing on a hunting/shooting forum..what's your beef?

Even when I was assigned my own tank (many years ago) the public was in no danger..no chance I would hurt an innocent person. Corrina..(my tank's name) would have frowned on such activity, as would my direct chain of command.
