525 grain piledriver and H4895

Beartooth bullets lists a load for their 525 gr piledriver with 52.5 gr of H4895 at 1820 fps. has anyone used this load? It seems like it would not fit in the case and I've read elsewhere that it doesn't. I would like to know what load will work in my buffalo classic before I order the bullets. I would really like to get those bullets up to about 1800 fps if the above load turns out too good to be true.

sorry just noticed the buffalo classic in the text.  I don't load with this powder, but Hodgdon's load database stops at 400 gr. Jacketed, but it's barely this velocity:

lyman 49th lists a 535gr  at 1700+ with a max load of varget. for ruger no.1&3 only nothing that touches 1800 in any powder or weight  above 500 gr.


lee 2nd lists a 500gr load maxed out  h4895 at 1600+  well short of your proposed  1800fps  in a 525.again for ruger 1&3 only



I think you would have a wrecked firearm and/or a wrecked self trying that in a handi rifle.


I would not do it on a bet and advise you not to,this is an overpressure load in any known firearm that could possibly harm/kill you

there is nothing that walks on this earth that needs that level of firepower to dispatch.
 405 gr trapdoor level loads will shoot thru a horse. how much killing do you need?

Ive got a 520 wfn mold from ballistic cast which is pretty close to the same bullet. I got it up to about 1600 fps when i was playing with it but at that level recoil was severe and the lever was starting to  pop open on its own which is a sure sign of pressure in a marlin. Sorry but i dont know the load and wouldnt post it if i did. Id say that realisticaly about 1500 is all a marlin will take safely and about all your shoulder will take. My guess is there velocitys were probably taken from a 24 inch test barrel not a guide gun.

Lyman in their 49th manual list for a 535 gr bullet with Varget which similar to but NOT the same as H4895 at 54 gr with a 24 inch pressure barrel velocity at 1760 fps at 37,800 CUP
This will give you an idea of what to expect.  One thing you must do is take into account the amount of bullet inside the case.  The more inside the case the more the powder charge must be cut.
I get 1500 with RL7 with a 550 gr bullet in my Marlin 22 incher with the bullet seated to 2.510 inches OAL.
Garrett uses a 540 at the same velocity from my Marlin. You won't  get the velocity listed.
I would say the load is achievable but why?  Of coarse the barrel length on a BC is 32 inches.  You may get the velocity but you won't like the recoil.
