Check out this awesome slo-mo shot!
« on: November 24, 2011, 04:05:39 PM »
My wife killed her first buck yesterday with my TC Encore in 7mm-08. The shot was 230 yards and my HD cam caught the bullet in flight and the impact on the buck. Check this out!!!

The bullet "appears" slow down in the milliseconds immediately prior to impact and then "SCREAMS" through the deer between seconds 5 and 6 disappearing completely on the far side with little to no atmospheric interference seen to indicate its post-hit flight.  Probably due to subsonic conditions on the far side.

It takes the deer almost 8 SECONDS to register the hit, hunch up, and get his feet moving away from the point of impact.  That is one FAST bullet and one slow reaction time for the deer.

For the deer, it was ALL OVER before the bullet's impact.

I noticed the same thing. The bullet was through him and in the dirt before he even flinched. Its pretty amazing to catch it all on film, its not very often you get to watch a bullet do it work on an animal in slow motion! ;)

Its just a Panasonic SD90. I picked it up on Ebay for about $300. I just slowed the footage way down in my editing software ;)

flinginairosThanks for that info.

I didn't realize the capability for capturing bullet vortex and impact detail at 200 + yards was available for the price of a rifle scope.  Time for me to do some research as Ive been out of the photography business for a long time.

Cheers!

Definitely check that camera out if you want something small to film hunts. I bought mine at the beginning of nov. and I absolutely LOVE it! The video it takes is unreal and it has some great features. It also has a microphone input and a mount for one so it has great audio capabilities as well. I did a ton of research on small cameras and I dont think it can be beat for the price. I have some other footage taken with the camera on my youtube channel if you are interested  ;)

Just checked out that camera pricing her en the UK and once again it shows how we get ripped off. That Panasonic SD90 costs about $650USD over here.

That's a sweet video!  How far were you from the buck?  It looks like your wife was quite a bit to your right and you seem to be elevated above the shot.

The buck was 230 yards. She was about 5' to my right and just slightly above me.

Wow, that is great video for that yardage and a $400 camera! Guess what I'm getting for my birthday in February??? You should get a commission from Panasonic...
What kind of editing software are you using?

Nice, I think you will like it!! ;) I use Magix Movie Edit Pro17HD. It works pretty well, cost about $50. I think they have a newer version out now, dont know what it is called though.
