I finally got to the range today with my 340. I bought it 6 or 7 months ago and just stuck it in the safe.
I cleaned it up and replaced to old fogged up Weaver K3. Grabbed some 150 gr. Monarch rounds at Academy.
The trigger is surprisingly crisp and light.
Darned thing actually grouped the cheap ammo into 1 1/8" at 100yds. That was the average for 6-3shot groups.
Piney woods, here we come!

My BIL used to have one, he shot a lot of deer with it.  He had one of the early ones that was not drilled and tapped so he retired it when his eyes aged and went to one of them hi-tech scoped rifles!
 
They always had a reputation as a good shooting rifle.  Used to be a fairly common sight here in the deer woods of Michigan.

1 1/8 groups at 100 yds is plenty accurate enough for hunting

I really enjoy the old Savages. I've got a redone 23c/.32-20 that is very good shooter as well.

IIRC, when I researched it, it was right around 1930 mfg.

The early production .30-30 340 that I had shot well with iron sights and I didn't want to screw it up by drilling for a scope.  I just lost, thru my fault, the opportunity to pick ua a 98% one that was drilled.  I'm kicking myself over that.
I have a .222 one that shoots under 1" @ 100 yd.  I was surprised by it's accuracy as I have had a few higher priced contemporaries of it that didn't shoot as well.
