Crosman Nitro Piston Venom Dusk: what do you think of it
« on: November 26, 2011, 12:31:11 PM »
My kids are getting me an air rifle for Christmas and it is the only one with the Nitro system in their price range. I have no say so in the gun but just want to know what I am getting. All I am going to use it for is shooting in the backyard at 25yards. They are even making me a box with place for targets and to keep the pellets contained. I am stuck at home and they know I love to shoot and can't go to the range so they are doing this for me.

Great kiddos ya got there!!

Looks like (on paper) it'd out perform my Beeman.  Glad to see Crossman getting serious about the adult air rifle market.  I googled crossman Venom Nitro, and found this:

http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Crosman_Nitro_Venom_Dusk_Air_Rifle/2468

1,200 fps, 18.4 ftlb energy out put both with a .177, ambidextous stock, two stage adjustable trigger, and claimed to be one of the quietest springers available.  Perfectly capable of squirrel and rabbit hunting if you ever choose to.

Merry Christmas

Yea great Kids they take great care of the old man. And I have read every thing I can find on it and watched youtube vid or two on it. Just wanted someone with on hands on. I love the sound of the stats, I would have went with the Benjamin myself and it is why they got the Nitro and not the spring. Which I liked. How is the Benjamin and do you like the nitro?

My Beeman is spring powered, the nitro piston is one thing I have not tried.  The worst I have heard about the nitro powered guns is being hard to cock on hot days

well I am a big man so I think I can cock it. But I had not heard that I know on cold days they still shoot as hard. Or that is what I read.

I just finished sighting in my newly purchased Nitro Venom and I love it. It is much smoother cocking and shooting just like they say. It does not recoil the way a spring-piston gun does. I was firing pairs of shots to sight in and a lot of the pairs were a single ragged hole at 10 meters. I was using a piece of 5/8" plywood as a backstop but it was not enough. I was shooting hollowpoint .22 pellets and a single shot was stopped but those tight pairs would have splinters out the back. Good power and accuracy and pleasant to shoot.
