Need "Guide" for Hunt
« on: January 14, 2004, 04:07:05 AM »
Hi, anyone out there from Alaska and a registerd Guide?

I would like to offer a trade to anyone that will "Guide" me and a friend on a goat hunting trip in 2005.   I have a nice piece of land that produces good Whitails here in WI.  I have a cabin on the land, stands etc.  I don't want an outfitted hunt, just someone that knows where we can get a nice billy, we will bring all of our own gear, packs, tents, etc.  I will set you up on our land in 05 or 06 for a bowhunt for whitails.

Let me know if you would be interested.

From the game regulations:

"A non-resident (U.S. citizen) who hunts brown/grizzly bear, Dall sheep or mountain goat must be accompanied in the field by an Alaska licensed guide pr be accompanied in the field by an Alaska resident 19 years or older who is within the second-degree of kindred."

So you need a licensed guide to be with you on the hunt.  Good luck in finding one who isn't busy guiding paying clients.

Friends do take friends hunting up here and family members.  But even taking a friend on a hunt can land you in big trouble.

Suppose my life long high school buddie came to Valdez and I took him fishing. As long as he did not contribute to the trip in any manner I would be all right. If I asked him to split the cost of the gas, then I would be providing services for barter and guilty of guiding.

You can hire a transporter.  Look for  Alaska Fish and Alaska Hunting Information Site. I am currently typing on a piece of history and can't look up the URL.  They will list many who provide services here in AK.  You can also post a message ont he hunting firum for additional information.

If you can't find anyone there. Get back to us and we will see what I can find for you.

Dave,

Just to be clear, and I know you realize this...

But in this case the original poster cannot hire a Transporter (note the capital "T" ;)) for a Mountain Goat hunt.

Not trying to skirt the law.

I guess I was a little unclear guys,  Sorry about that, I'm not looking for a non-licensed guide.  Just looking for someone that is licensed and would like to trade a hunt.  I will put them up in my cabin in WI big buck country, put them in proven stands.  They just need to get here and then pick up the groceries.  I would be going with them on their goat hunt, they would hunt with me on my rut bow hunt.

No intentions of trying to skirt the law, just the high dollar signs.  When you pay 2k per acre for hunting land here in WI you don't have lots of funds to take trips elsewhere.
