Best guess from some reports would be a large rocket motor exploding on a test stand. It is difficult to build a rocket large enough to travel a few thousand miles. Don't be suprised by the fact the rocket motors do blow up and the explosions often rival high explosive detonations.
If they ever get a warhead and a large enough rocket motor they will be a credile threat. Warheads and rockets are generaly a parallel effort.

Hasn't Israel vowed that they would never allow Iran, or any other Middle Eastern country to possess nukes? And didn't Israel take out Irak and Syria's nuclear installations? I don't think Israel makes idle threats.

I would rather be overt about the whole thing. Tell Iran there is no way we're going to allow you to have a nuke. If they don't cease and desist, we demonstrate to them how to take down a nuclear project.

Actually, it wouldnt.. per US Law, Terrorism is defined as:

(From U.S. Code Title 22, Ch.38, Para. 2656f(d)

the term “terrorism” means premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents

If the target is a nuclear weapons facility.. then it is an act of war.. not an act of terrorism (as defined by US code).. those are two very different things..

were the target a nuclear energy facility.. then it would fit the US governments definition of terrorism..

Not necessarily. A nuclear plant could be producing the energy to drive the other parts of the nuke program. Could be used to produce fuel for bombs. In that case it would be a valid military target.

Oh yeah. My guess is someone's last word was "OOPS!" Sometimes accidents happen and like was already said, building missiles and bombs is dangerous business. Maybe it was done to them, maybe they did it to themselves, or maybe it just happened. Luck is unpredictable.
