I have been very busy
« on: November 29, 2011, 06:48:09 AM »
There is a group in Galveston called Ghosts and Pirates.  They have a haunted house and are just completing a pirate ship.
Six weeks ago they hit my website and were interested in six of my concrete cannons for the ship.  They came to my house and saw one I had and ordered six of them.  Due to size restraints they needed the carriage to be no more than 36" long.  I shortened the carriage by one step to achieve this.
They pick them up tomorrow.  I just finished assembly in the driveway.
Cool Huh? ;D 8)

WOW, outfitting whole ships huh?

I have played with QEV for creating airguns, looking at your concrete cannon I think one might be able to fit and air gun style device that could "simulate" smoke from those.  Have you ever thought of such a device?

I don't need to simulate firing myself.  I'm happy just to look at them.
I have made it very clear to the pirate people that these are non-firing under any circumstances.  And I put it in writing.  The last thing I need is some "expert" trying to make a noise with one of these.

Zulu,
Six cannons and six carriages in only six weeks? You were really busy!
The paint on the barrels looks a little different. Is it just the pictures or did you change the color a little?

carmy53,
The paint on the barrels is flat black.  That was a customer request but I must say that I like it.  I have usually used gloss.  This was different for a change.

In the pictures it looks almost like a gun metal color. Very nice. Now I'm going to have a decision to make when I buy mine from you someday.

Hey, eight guns on your front walk, that's getting close to half a broadside for a frigate. :D  They look great, Zulu!
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Not much that drives by that house would survive the residential broadside!

Residential broadside is nothing, compared to his house crossing the T. 8)   I really like the simplistic and rugged look of the unpainted carriages.  Are they oiled or varnished?

The pirates came today and picked up their guns.  I lifted the barrels with my engine hoist, loaded the carriage by hand and dropped the barrel back on.  I'm sure they were the hit of the highway on the way home.
They are going to post some pictures on their website.  When they do, I'll link it here.
This is the website in progress.  Not much there yet.

Zulu,

I'm assuming you have garbage p/u once a week, did you happen take any photos of a weeks worth of sawdust build up?

Cannoneer,
If I put sawdust out for the garbage men to pick up, I would go broke buying plastic bags. ;D
It gets loaded in a wheel barrow and dumped in the gardens.  I make a ton of it.
This project crammed a whole lot of work into a short time frame.
My house was packed with carriages. :o
