My Colts and a Remington
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:00:46 PM »
I traded for these.  The Colts are real Colts and unfired. 1851 Navy, 1862 Pocket Pistol, and a Remington 1858.

Like them all.  I had a Remington like that some time ago, and made a mistake when I traded it.

Swampman, I really like all of those guns, but especially the Remington. What can you tell us about its history?

The Remington is a copy of the 1858 Remington but they never made them with a brass frame from what I'm told.

thats right, now that i think of it, ive never seen a orig rem with a brass frame.or any other major gunmakers pistols from that time period other than some from a few small companys rushed out during the war.but i could be wrong.

During the war, the South made quite a few because brass is easier to work and easier on tooling.

I felt sure it was a copy, but was wondering who made it? A Confederate copy of anything in that kind of condition would have to be extremely rare. I assume its one of the Italian companies that made it?

What about the Colts? They look brand new. How did they survive that long in such good condition?

Again, all of them are great looking guns!

The Remington is an Italian copy.  The Colts were made by Colt in the 1970s and 1980s.
