Where to send encore for modifications
« on: November 30, 2011, 03:13:07 AM »
I am a new encore owner. I have a prohunter ws frame and a blued 308 rifle barrel. I love the handiness of this rifle and want to make a few improvements. I would like to send it to one place if possible for the following work:
Trigger job - or is this a DIY proposition
Fill iron sight holes with permanent plugs
Cerakote barrel in stainless to hopefully match ws frame
Recrown barrel

Also is the hanger bar conversion necessary?

What should this work cost?

Thx

Considering the cost of the barrel work, I would probably sell the barrel you have and order a custom barrel the way you want it.  The same shop can do the trigger job for you.  I like the hanger bars as they are convenient and I think they make the forend pressures more consistent but I don't have them on everything.  I would start with Bullberry, MGM and SSK custom shops for comparisons.

+1 on Mike's recommendation.  The caliber selection is almost endless, too.
Yeah, I'm a rifle looney

What Mike said +2... sell the barrel and buy custom.
Cost wise from lowest probably MGM, Bullberry then SSK.
Turn around time from shortest probably SSK, MGM with Bullberry a distant third.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
