Dirrectional antenna EMP signal?
« on: November 30, 2011, 05:28:58 PM »
Don't know if this is the right place to ask this.

Would it be possible to build a dirrectional antenna that could push a signal that could "target" with the effect of a blanket EMP blast? I know nothing about electricity, radio waves or antennas.

There are antennas that are directional...Is that what you are asking?  I am confused by the question.  By target do you mean get more bad stuff????

build an antenna that could dirrect an energy blast that would burn out computer controles on a building or ship or aircraft without requireing an Abomb to generate it? ear

There are some small microwave devices now that interrupt communication via any radio wave, and potentially damage electronics that use magnetism in any way.  I know little however of EMP's  though I bet our military either has or is working on such a thing.

To blanket an area would disrupt too much.  For instance, if we EMP's China, we would have nowhere to buy stuff from, and if they EMP'ed us, they would have no one to buy it!

But if we could target, we could snipe around and help build up the military complex some more....

It is according to how small and how dirrectable the device might be. A couple could stop an entire army if mobile and powerfull enough. A Smith & Wesson equalizer of the modern erra. fantacy.

I dont know if this is what you are talking about or not-

I recall seeing a show in the early 90's it was a 60 Minutes or 20/20 type of show and they built an RF/EMP weapon out of things available from Radio Shack and then tested it by pointing it a car with its engine on (I think it was a Corvette) it had digital dash and the works. Anyway they fired that thing up the cars dash board went crazy and the car died.

Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

I am almost positive that it was 20/20. That would only give you somewhere near 20 years of episodes to go through if you wanted to find it! :o

F-15 Wild Weasel comes to mind.  It jams radar frequencies.
A shoulder mounted boom box with rap music blasting might work too.  Turns me around in a second.

You can build a short range omni-directional EMP generator using off the shelf materials pretty easily. Unfortunately for your plan the majority of military electronics in the world are hardened against EMP bursts. You could stop most civilian vehicles, but not most tanks.

I built one myself, but I needed the money and sold it at a yard sale.
